The hotel is situated in a great part of the village, with spectacular views out to sea. It has a great pool (with waiter service from the bar!) and access to the village and its amenities is good. We stayed on 'room only' basis so can't vouch for the food, etc., but in terms of location, room quality, cleanliness and service, it was near faultless. I would definitely reccommend this hotel for a peaceful and relaxing break.

Having read some previous reviews, we were somewhat aprehensive about what to expect at this hotel. Yes there are some things that could be improved upon such as new more modern bed linen and new cushions for the sun loungers and unfortunately in the evenings there is no bar service. However, we had a very enjoyable holiday here and would definitely recommend it. Our room did not have a sea view but it was clean and comfortable with air conditioning that made it comfortable in the hot temperatures.
We stayed for 5 nights half board. Breakfast was the same every day but there was a reasonable choice - cooked eggs bacon etc, toast, cereals, yoghurts & fruit. Evening meals were served 7 till 9 and I would recommend getting there at around 7 to enjoy the food at its hottest. There was a choice of 4 mains (meat/fish/pasta/rice) with veg, salad and chips. Pudding options were pretty much fresh fruit and you did have to pay for any drinks you wanted with your meal but the price difference between going for B & B versus half board was so small we decided to risk it and took the view that we hadn't wasted a lot if the meals were inedible. Again we were pleasantly surprised and had our evening meals at the hotel every night saving a lot on eating out!
Service by the two guys who work long hours in the restaurant/pool bar could not be faulted they were always pleasant and helpful even giving us tips on how to get back to the airport by local bus. They said the hotel has only been open again for the last two years after a period of closure which explains the lack of reviews and also they said the owner hoped to make some improvements during the winter months this year.
The pool itself was lovely with a bar service during the day.
The hotel is only a couple of minutes walk from the upmarket resort of Portal Nous which has a good choice of local shops/restaurants/bars and a supermarket. We had lunch at Chamelli's on our last day and would really recommend it for food and a coffee. Kariba bar is good for cocktails & a chilled out vibe in the evenings.
It takes about 10 mins to walk to the beach from the hotel - get there early to hire sun beds/umbrella which is about 10 euros. Roxy beach bar right by the water's edge is a fun way to watch the sunset while enjoying chill out tunes and a drink. There are some very nice restaurants and some very expensive boats at the marina this is obviously a very nice area of Majorca and the hotel Montemar is a great base to explore it.
We took the bus to Palma to visit the Cathedral - cost 1.5 euros per person each way. Buses also run to Palmanova & Magaluf for those seeking more nightlife/clubs.
Pros of the Hotel Montemar: location - within easy walking distance of Portal Nous which is very nice, affordable, lovely pool, air con, clean rooms, helpful, friendly staff.
Cons - some decor/soft furnishings could do with updating/replacing, no bar service in evenings or entertainment. The hotel & resort itself is more geared towards adults than those with children although children were staying at the hotel and made very welcome.

This is a very good quality 3 star hotel which was clean and fairly well maintained. We were on a B & B basis and whilst the breakfast was basic it was all that was required. I cannot fault the staff as I found them all very helpful and the bar staff very friendly. It is in a great location albeit the bus has to leave you at the bottom of the ill as there is no easy access for the bus to the hotel. The views were very good. The resort of Portals Nous is small but with enough good quality restraurants to give you pleny of variety.
