A late arrival (stated when booked but additional evening flight delay) was met with complete disdain by a very rude man at the desk, who we first thought may have been the Night Porter - it seems he was Manager'! We were told that we didn't have a booking (In fact, booked and confirmed in early June) and at 3am we were kept waiting for 25 minutes while he 'found our booking' and then proceeded to 'slap' the room key card and what turned out to be a remote for the air con, on the counter top. (No guidance as to where the stairs, lift or room might be or instruction of what the tatty remote operated - air con but it didn't work in our room anyway!) Next morning my teenage daughter called me to the twin room she was sharing with her friend to show me the bathroom ceiling - which was actually in the bath and on the floor of the room! They had found it on arrival but because it was so late when we arrived, felt they'd mention in the morning. But why was this room in use when the hotel was half empty?
Complaints were met with rude indifference from the same rude man on the desk especially it seems by being English. Twice when talking to him, German and Spanish Guests walked into reception and he turned to them immediately and started talking!
Breakfast was no better, rubbish coffee and bright yellow orange juice - the only choice of juice. To state that this hotel is a 4 star is TOTALLY ASTONISHING! It's terrible!!
Following further rude indifference when my daughter got injured on the beach and I needed a taxi to take her to a chemist in town, I decided enough was definately enough!! We left the hotel after one night and a miserable morning, with help from Nadia our Booking Agent we moved across the road to the wonderful Hotel Cala Fornells which couldn't have been more different and should be at least a 5 Star and where we experienced a great holiday!!

Lets get one thing straight before I go any further, this will not be your sort of hotel if you're looking for a lively place to stay, its somehwere to come and chill out and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of Cala Fornells.

The hotel is set at the end of a very quiet road with its own small rocky/sandy beach. The views from any of the rooms (unless you have a single) are simply stunning looking out over the bay towards Paguera. Beware though that like most of Paguera this is a predominantly German hotel down to the fact that they even have a German flag hanging outside. I was tempted to pop out and buy some unionjack shorts and run them up one of the unused flagpoles at the front of the building. Dont let this put you off though, although it does limit what is offered in the restaurant, read by that ham and cheese with everything. Infact the restaurant is probably the weakest part of the hotel. It just isn't up to what is expected of a 4 star these days and the restaurant closes very early (8:30pm) in the evenings. Its not that the food was particularly bad there just wasn't much choice and if you got down to the restaurant a bit later there wasn't much left!!! There are a couple of restaurants 15 minutes walk away but we didn't sample them so I couldn't comment if they are worth a visit.

The hotel is family run, is generally clean with nice rooms, and the exterior areas are spotless with plenty of sun loungers. We found all the staff from reception, to waiting, to the (much maligned here) bar man to be very friendly and helpful and they all spoke good English despite the multitude of Germans, infact I dont think we saw any other English people in the hotel during our stay.

You really do need a car though if you want to do anything other than lay around the pool, the nearest shop is a small Spar which is approx 15 mins walk away with Paguera centre another 5 minutes further on. The hotel has a shuttle minibus which runs several times a day though and they also have hire cars on site which are very cheap. Overall I came back feeling very relaxed and if you are aware of the limitations you wont be dissapointed. I would go again but only for a short break due to the lack of anything much going on there.

This is the third time we as a young family have been to Hotel Coronado.
We really enjoyed the accommodation, the food and the friendliness of the staff.
We will go back again and recommend the hotel to anyone who doesn't like a noisy touristy holiday. This hotel is clean and well appointed with excellent service.
the chef did special food for my son who has a dairy allergy and we were upgraded to better rooms as they were available - it was great!

Ignore the poor reviews for this hotel, we enjoyed a peaceful,relaxing week. An excellent location, as was the service and food in the spotlessly clean restaurant. A gluten-free diet was no problem the chef was only too keen to give details of what each dish contained.
Many extras you pay for in other hotels were free of charge
Don't go here if you want a lively holiday although busy Pageura was only 2 mins drive. We'll definitely return
