“Enjoyable stay, would go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Had a very enjoyable stay in the Mar y Pins recently. Nice, clean hotel, helpful staff, good food (maybe not as much choice as in a larger hotel, but perfectly acceptable). Great location - close to the beach and shops, but set high above them. Yes, the most direct route to the beach involves going down 113 steps. This did not pose us any problems whatsover, although would not be suitable for elderly people. There is an alternative route however, walking down a hill. The pool was surprisingly quiet (not sure if this is typical) and there was plenty of space for everyone. Smallish, quite basic, room/balcony but fantastic views across the bay. Initially, a large tree obscured our sea view but the hotel were happy to offer us an another room with an uninterrupted view! Very few British people there at the time we stayed, the majority of the guests being German. Overall, we thought it was excellent value for money - would go back.

“Nice view but very basic.....”

We will start with the only good thing about this hotel, stunning views from the room balcony (almost all with balconies and sea view). The bedrooms are very basic (no tv in the room, just twin beds, a closet and also a bathroom).
We had half board basis, if you are not a fussy eater this is fine but to be honest it lacked a lot.The bar area- OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the rudness of the staff I think it can't be measured they realy need some customer service training in there ( of course it was one exception-Valentin, but it wasn't enough to compensate for all the other ones), you can dream at a smile or a simple "Hello" or "Ola".
Reception.... we found it very rude for the reception manager to avoid at all time the eye contact with guests.... and don't even think about a late check out even if you want to pay for it [ we were asked to vacate the bedroom by 11am and to wait at the reception to see if our bedrom will be available on that day for a late check out- we asked for the late check out with a couple of days before and also in the morning before check out- how does this work - you don't now if you have bedrooms available on the day?????- we found this realy strange : ) .....]
About entertainment at the hotel ...... what's that?, not that you will need it as Paguera is a lovely resort with plenty of bars for all ages
We don't think that we will come again to stay at this hotel as around the beach area are plenty of other hotels with the same stunning views ...........

Room Tip: All the bedrooms on the second and first floor had nice views

“Nice view”

We spend two weeks in this hotel. the best was the view from the swimming pool area and at night you could listen to the waves.
but...
unfortunately we had a different expectation of cleanness! the room had already a lot of black spots at the walls. when we went closer, we saw that these were dead mosquitos! we also had a visit of some cockroaches and a lot of spiders. so nothing for someone afraid of insects.
also during the nights you couldn't really sleep. either there was noise from the beach, party on a boat or very early in the morning the housekeeping moving the beds or the chairs on the balcony. You can hear everything through that wall!
nevertheless, the way to the beach is only 100 stairs away. just have to go down and you are already at the promenade.
you should take a transfer or a taxi to the hotel! otherwise you will have to walk a long ascending way or take the 100 stairs (which I do not recommend with two suitcases over 20kg, temperature of 30degrees).
for a safe you have to pay extra, the swimming pool is not that big as shown in the pictures. the service/work attitude of some employees is highly unfriendly, especially the restaurant.
overall it has definitely not earned to be called a 3 star hotel!

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights on bed and breakfast basis with my friend. ( It was a short break away to recharge the batteries away from our husbands)
The views from the bedroom and the bathroom are breathtaking. The hotel was the cleanest hotel I have ever ever stayed in. The buffet Breakfast was excellent - eggs, toast, bacon, tomatoes, cheeses, cereals coffee , juice etc The staff were unfailingly polite.
Both This hotel and the resort of Peguera have a real 'old school' feel about it. Sort of how Spain was back in the day,The bedrooms were on the small side, old fashioned in in a nice way! The resort itself has an intimate feel about it , no rowdy brits mostly Germans, which we loved because we found all encountered to be pleasant and polite. Plenty of good bars and restaurants some still with entertainment on like you saw back in the day!
Shop around for bargains if you're eating eat - there was a great restaurant ( think it was the sport club on the sea front in the resort centre that did a very good 3 course menu del dia -( even at night) for believe it or not 8.5 euros.

So back to the hotel. I would go back next week however, the hotel is on a hill and you can access from the beach by stairs or by walking up the hill towards Cala Fornells .Also the bedrooms do not have air conditioning - the manager however did stay both lifts and aircon were planned and would be installed by next summer.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view - not to be missed

“very good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

We visited this hotel as a family of six with ages ranging from 20 to 72 years, it would be very difficult to find any hotel with such wonderful views let alone at such a good price.
The hotel is located directly on the bay in a quiet position with only the sea to listen to at night.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The pool area was directly looking onto the bay and never too busy.
There was very good enterntainment from female singers two nights per week and it would have been good to have entertainment more often so as not to have to walk into town, this would have been particularly good for my parents who found the walk more difficult than the younger members of our family.
The rooms were very clean with towels changed daily as needed.
We found the food fine, although there was limited choice, there was always something everyone could have and the paella was lovely.
The restaurant staff were very efficient, cleaning up empty plates instantly.
We were dropped in the middle of town by resort hopper and this was not acceptable as we had to walk up the hill with our cases, do not accept this as they did come to the hotel to pick up.
The hill is fairly steep however posed little problem most of the time although the steps were more problematic, they lead directly from the beach but in the sun are very difficult to climb.
Pageura is a lovely resort which is more refined than the more british resorts on this coastline, the lack of english visitors adds to the appeal.
the beach is peaceful and clean with lovely views.
You need to visit the ice cream shop between the larger bay and smaller second bay, 50 cents is all you pay for the most lovely selection of ice cream.
the lack of air conditioning posed no problem as there was a lovely sea breaze.
all in all we would definately return to this hotel and resort.

Room Tip: definately ask for a sea view
