“Pleased with the S'Olivera”

We have just spent 12 days at this hotel and found nothing at all to complain about.

Everywhere, inside and out, is kept spotlessly clean. All staff - Receptionists, Waiters, Cleaners, etc, always polite and always had a smile for you.

Very large restaurant so we never had to wait for a table, even though the hotel appeared full. One word of advice though, delay dinner until after 8.00 p.m. as there was always a rush for the dining room opening at 7.00, hence queues at the buffet! The food was quite varied and was regularly re-stocked.

We were the only British in the hotel but, as we have been to Peguera a few times before, we were expecting this. It doesn't bother us at all but if you want to be surrounded by lots of other Brits on holiday then this hotel, and even Peguera, is not for you! We love the civilised atmosphere of Peguera, lots of bars to chose from after your evening meal, many overlooking the beach and sea.

All-inclusive is available at the hotel but we chose half-board. Because of this I cannot comment on the daytime/evening entertainment, as we tripped around/lazed on the beach through the day and, after dinner, wandered along the Boulevard browsing in the shops and ended the night with a couple of drinks in one of the many bars along there.

Finally, the rooms. Not as large as I was expecting but quite acceptable, with lovely firm and comfy beds. No problems sleeping as there were no noisy guests in the hotel and the hotel itself is up a slight hill, so well away from the live-music bars in Peguera.

“Pleasantly surprised”

The hotel has many excellent features. It is absolutely spotless and the rooms, entertainment areas and the pool area are well kept. The pool area is relaxing and during our 7 night stay in peak season we had no problem getting a sunbed and were very pleased that this is a hotel where sunbeds are not generally 'reserved' early on in the morning. Other positive aspects include the choice of food which I would say cater for many different tastes. The breakfasts and salad choices are particularly excellent. Over the 7 days on an all inclusive basis we did find a large variety of dishes and these included pizza, rice dishes, wide range of meat and fish dishes cold meats, cheeses, paella. We even really enjoyed the deep fried cauliflower and broccolli. We arrived at 2.30 am and there was a cold buffet to eat when we arrived which we greatly appreciated.
The rooms are quite small but they have everything you may need, towels and linen changed regularly. The tv is german and spanish channels only cnn english speaking channel but we werent interested in tv so that was not a problem.
The main criticism of this hotel in other reviews has been the german influence of the hotel and the resort. There were a high number of german guests and most of the entertainment was in german and spanish as they are the languages required by most of the guests. Staff at the hotel speak to guests in german and food and drink ordered at the bar is in german/spanish . However several members of staff wanted to chat to us in english and as we learnt a few key spanish phrases had no trouble. On check in and out the reception staff dealt with us in english. There is an air of calm and all guests behave appropriately but there is not much of an atmosphere in the hotel and guests didnt really seem to interact with each other. If you don't like staying in hotels where people misbehave then you may like this hotel. It was actually refreshing to see well behaved children and no drunken behaviour.
On the couple of occasions we wanted a change from german run bars and entertainment we went to santa ponsa by taxi (6 km/7 euro) where there are many british bars and in the music square were tribute bands.
As a general guage we thought that this was a 3 and a half star hotel. The cleanliness was worthy of a 5 star but the entertainment quality ( 3 not bad shows in a week but one night the entertainment was a raffle!) and although the food was good quality no theme nights or individual cooking as well as the lack of a completely cosmoplitan atmosphere made us feel it was high 3 lower end of 4 star. I wouldnt book again at this hotel as we have now been to paguera once and would rather see another part of the island but its location (300 m from beach and main boulevard) allowed it to be quiet but not far from a more lively way of life may appeal to anyone wanting a different aspect to a stay in majorca.
I would say that if you want an england abroad'' experience and would be put off by being the only english people in the hotel most of your holiday as we were thgen this is probably not the hotel or resort for you. Any travellers that fancy a lively but calm experience and something more than a british package holiday then this is definately a suitable hotel and resort.

“Overbooked ! ! !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2007

I was overbooked at this hotel and they didn´t say anything ! !

When I enquired at the reception they didn´t know anything and I should talk to the (very rude and unfriendly) director Mr. Tolo ! on monday. Also the receptionist didn´t wanted to show or give me the prices of the apartments nor the rooms. This is very ridiculous.

When I called Mr. Tolo on monday, he was very unfriendly and rude, didn´t understand, he told me letterly, ¨ I don´t know who de [--] you are ! ! ¨ and that this is the way it functions overthere... !!! Not any sorry not any understanding, not any compensation ! !

Recommend everyone, who´s been overbooked and had the same experience to write a review and a letter of complaint to the tour operator

Just the way they treat people !

Were transferred to this hotel last minute from Camp De Mar. We were pleasantly suprised at the area (lovely clean beach, good bars and restaurants) albeit German dominated.

Hotel was good, staff helpful, pool area clean etc. Rooms relatively small but very clean and quiet. Food and entertainment poor in our opinion as follows:-

Food - repetitive and lacking in choice. All food catered for Germans which is to be expected as 95% of resort German. E.g.deep fat fried cauliflower (!!), lots of fish dishes (with no description so no idea what type of fish), basically not what you would expect of a supposed 4 star hotel.

Entertainment - like most hotels and bars in the resort, not good and totally German orientated.

Paguera wasnt our original choice but we were pleasantly suprised with the resort, if only it was a cosmopolitan area and not German.

Couple of good English bars (not that we want this generally on holiday but we were relieved to hear non German voices !) including Obsessions Music Bar (www.obsessionsmusicbar.com) which was excellent including live music every night of an excellent standard. Very friendly couple (Ray and Chris) who really made us feel welcome - definately worth a visit or two.

“a German colony”

hotel s'Olivera, Peguera, Majorca. 14-21 February 2006
My husband and I wanted to get away for a week for some sunshine and relaxation.
We chose Peguera because it was described as quiet and good for older people.
It was easy to get to from the airport, because there were zillions of taxis waiting and we arrived after a drive of about 45minutes.
The hotel was nice and recently refurbished, lots of light and airy rooms although not an obviously large hotel. However everything was catered towards German visitors. All information was in German, the entertainment was speaking German (so we were told, so we did not bother to go and see). The food was not very good, vegetables were cooked for hours and all tasted the same. The salads were good and the breakfasts also.
The town of Peguera was disappointing. We expected an old small town with some hotels and shops and restaurants. There was no small town, just hotels, souvenir shops and some nicer shops, bars, restaurants all along the one street called the Boulevar.
We enjoyed the beach and the cafes at the sea front, the weather was lovely and the sky mostly blue.
We went on a trip over the mountains to La Colabra ( very scary in a big bus over hairpins!) from where we went on a boat to Puerto de Seller: a wonderful experience. Seller was a lovely old town and the port absolutely beautiful.
Then we returned to Palma on an old wooden train through the countryside which was lovely. A wonderful trip!!!
Majorca is well worth visiting but we would not go to Peguera again.
