I was one of the first guests to stay there this year after the hotel had closed for a period. I was there for three weeks. Although hotel not fully opened I was made to feel so very welcome. My room was great, the manager put a fridge in there for me as the Bar or Dining room again wasn't open when I arrived. Everywhere within the hotel was spotlessly clean. I do appreciate that the food was sometimes on the dodgy side, but again this is 2 star rating!!! I will always say that Hipico is good value for money. This is the second time I have stayed there and will be returning again in September. All the staff are very friendly and helpfull, they may not speak much English....but we are in their country remember!!! Anyway it helps the brushing up on your spanish.
Again the pool is fantasic, always cleaned and you never have to fight for a sun lounger. The location is superb....all you want is within easy reach. When I was in Cala D'or in June I couldn't stay in Hipico as it was closed. I had to stay in 3 star hotel on other side of Marina.....this was the worst place ever......all I wanted to do is to go to Hipico. My Grand-daughter who is 8 thought the same.
I would not ever want to stay anywhere else. You meet so many of the other guests there, you feel part of a small community. Many of them I would say are friends for life now.... Well Done to all the staff at Hipico and keep going strong!!!!!!!

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 2 teenage children from 30/7/07 - 10/8/07. I was initally very concerned as I had heard the hotel had just reopened a few weeks before our arrival. We booked the hotel as a budget holiday and didn't really know what to expect from a 2 star hotel. On arrival I was initially very shocked with the room. It was very basic. Our accomodation had 2 separate bedrooms with 2 single beds in each, a wardrobe, mirror and bedside table in one and dressing table and wooden stool in the other. There was also a safe in one of the rooms. The shower in the bathroom was very tiny with just a shower curtain. Each bedroom had a ceiling fan which helped cool the rooms a little but not a lot. I bought an extra oscillliating fan for each bedroom which did make a difference. There was no balcony or terrace with this room and people could just walk past the front door. You could hear noise and conversation from the other rooms. Not many of the rooms had private balconies so there was a lack of privacy. However, the rooms were cleaned regularly and clean towels left (5 times out of seven). The rest of the hotel was nice. The gardens were lovely and the pool was clean and never crowded. There was always sunbeds, umbrellas available and no-one was putting towels down in advance which was a welcome change. The hotel also had 2 tennis courts, a pool table and mini-golf area which I thought was quite good for a 2 star. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was not that bad and there was enough to choose from to ensure that no-one went hungry. Overall I would say that the only thing that let this hotel down was the rooms. But with some refurbishment, modernisation, air conditioning, tvs etc then this would be an ideal place to stay. It is in a great location in a great resort. However don't expect luxury from the rooms.

room not clean inter connecting door with the appartment next door made of paper ? you could here everything from toilets to conversations ! food was the worst we have ever seen. do not go for the half board option .staff dont care one bit . the only plus side is the location plese try to book somewhere else cala dor is a lovely resort.

Dont expect any luxury here. This is very basic 2 star accomodation providing somewhere to sleep and wash with a small pool to to sit around during the day. We initially booked half board but after the first evening meal decided not to bother and instead dined out at one of the many restauarants in the popular pedestrianised area or marina, both of which are very close by. The breakfast is typical spanish buffet style so whilst there is a good choice of hot and cold items it is all local produce.. no familiar brands of fruit juice, cereals yoghurt etc. By the end of the week my family decided this wasnt worth eating either.
The rooms are very sparsley furnished with rather old furniture, in much need of a refurb. In August the rooms are very hot and whilst there is a ceiling fan this did not keep the room cool and it was difficult to get a good nights sleep. Dont drop the soap in the shower because there isnt room to bend down and pick it up without stepping outside!. The rooms are kept clean and the towels changed (5 days out of 7). Some rooms are adjoining which means you can hear eveything going on in the next room through the door. There is a pool bar serving snacks and drinks but again whilst the beer is fine the soft drinks for the children are not nice- weak post mix. No bottled or canned drinks were available to purchase at all.
Overall I would treat this hotel as a base from which to explore the town of Cala D'or and surrounding areas rather than relying on this place for providing your holiday experience. Maybe I was expecting more from this 2 star hotel. I wont do this again because it is false economy. Our holiday ended up costing us alot more than if we had booked a better hotel because we had to eat out every night. I understand this hotel has recently changed hands and it is part of a different hotel chain so lets hope improvements will be made. This hotel could be alot better ... other guests were complaining.
To end on a positive note, the location of Club Hipico is excellent and you dont have to walk more than a few yards to get to beaches bars restaurants and shopping. The hotel grounds are well maintained with two top quality tennis courts which we really enjoyed.
