“Very good holiday”

ArrIved at hotel Hipico late Friday night and I wasnt initially too happy with our room. It was ground floor and surrounded by hedgerow. As it was late we had to sleep but next morning my husband asked for an alternative room to which there was no problem in getting. Although rooms are basic, they are spotlessly clean and we had no problem with our other room. It was a shared balcony but that presented no problem, plenty of room.
The delight for us at Hotel Hipico is the pool !!! Some days it felt like your own private pool as there was no one there, the busiest was one day when there were maybe about 15 people in it !! What a result !!
We had booked bed and breakfast although to be fair we only had breakfast in the hotel on the first morning, it was o.k all your usual, cereal etc, but we preferred to head into town which is minutes away. That is another beauty of Club Hipico, situated minutes from all amenities.
Cala d'or is beautiful, a lovely holiday and would certainly stay at this hotel again. Like a few others have mentioned though bar prices are major hiked up but we had one drink at the bar one day, so not a problem !!!!!

my partener and i stayed at this hotel 21st june to july 5th 2008. we was,nt quite sure what to expect judging from the reviews of trip adviser, however we were supprised by the size of the grounds and a super pool OK the rooms are basic but its all one wants to place your head for the night.( dated is the word). reguarding the food we both found and liked the selection that was offered us both breakfast and dinner ,remember we are visitors and if we wanted british food then we woud,nt BE HERE location in cala dor only minuets away from one side the marina and the other the shopping centre so handy to walk to .cala dor beach is small and gets crowded so head for gran grande beach next one over or try the beach trains the stop a short way down from the hotel in general we both enjoyed our stay here very frendly staff and polite . in conclusion we both feel it is worthy of a 3* rating.

“Paid peanuts for a basic hotel - got great value for money”

Just returned from a week at the Hipico. I had no idea it had only just opened! I booked based on price and reviews on here from last year and the risk was that even if the hotel standards had changed since, the unbeatable location cannot.

The +tives:
Location: just as other reviewers have said - Marina 3 mins one way; shops/bars/restaurants 5 mins the other, small beach 10 mins, larger one 15.
Across road = supermarket and Schooners Bar which is actually quite classy, not a plastic tables & chair type 'British Pub'.
Price: it's a cheap 2 star - you get what you pay for
Facilities: pool, ample sunbathing space, no fights for sunbeds, pool table for kiddies, 2 nice tennis courts
Room 108: this is the one I had, ground floor with terrace, round the back so nice and quiet. Huge room for me and 2 others, large bathroom.

The -ves:
Balcony design: The ground floor terraces are private, the upstairs balconies are communal
Breakfast: We only made 1 breakfast and the food was a little too cold, the coffee terrible.
Bar Prices: a little expensive, especially bottles of water

Note this hotel and indeed the resort cater only really for families. Young and lively it is not!

I have worked in tour operating for over 10 years for people like Airtours, First Choice etc and I can see this hotel has so much potential it is unbelieveable what could be achieved if someone went in there with alot of money to refurb and improve on existing facilities.

At the moment, what you get is a basic hotel with good facilities, it seems that the rooms can be a bit of a lottery but I got lucky with #108, the location is unbeatable and for what I paid, I think I got excellent value for money. I wasn't expecting much, and i was happy with what i got.

I was one of the first guests to stay there this year after the hotel had closed for a period. I was there for three weeks. Although hotel not fully opened I was made to feel so very welcome. My room was great, the manager put a fridge in there for me as the Bar or Dining room again wasn't open when I arrived. Everywhere within the hotel was spotlessly clean. I do appreciate that the food was sometimes on the dodgy side, but again this is 2 star rating!!! I will always say that Hipico is good value for money. This is the second time I have stayed there and will be returning again in September. All the staff are very friendly and helpfull, they may not speak much English....but we are in their country remember!!! Anyway it helps the brushing up on your spanish.
Again the pool is fantasic, always cleaned and you never have to fight for a sun lounger. The location is superb....all you want is within easy reach. When I was in Cala D'or in June I couldn't stay in Hipico as it was closed. I had to stay in 3 star hotel on other side of Marina.....this was the worst place ever......all I wanted to do is to go to Hipico. My Grand-daughter who is 8 thought the same.
I would not ever want to stay anywhere else. You meet so many of the other guests there, you feel part of a small community. Many of them I would say are friends for life now.... Well Done to all the staff at Hipico and keep going strong!!!!!!!

“Very basic rooms but otherwise nice hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2007

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 2 teenage children from 30/7/07 - 10/8/07. I was initally very concerned as I had heard the hotel had just reopened a few weeks before our arrival. We booked the hotel as a budget holiday and didn't really know what to expect from a 2 star hotel. On arrival I was initially very shocked with the room. It was very basic. Our accomodation had 2 separate bedrooms with 2 single beds in each, a wardrobe, mirror and bedside table in one and dressing table and wooden stool in the other. There was also a safe in one of the rooms. The shower in the bathroom was very tiny with just a shower curtain. Each bedroom had a ceiling fan which helped cool the rooms a little but not a lot. I bought an extra oscillliating fan for each bedroom which did make a difference. There was no balcony or terrace with this room and people could just walk past the front door. You could hear noise and conversation from the other rooms. Not many of the rooms had private balconies so there was a lack of privacy. However, the rooms were cleaned regularly and clean towels left (5 times out of seven). The rest of the hotel was nice. The gardens were lovely and the pool was clean and never crowded. There was always sunbeds, umbrellas available and no-one was putting towels down in advance which was a welcome change. The hotel also had 2 tennis courts, a pool table and mini-golf area which I thought was quite good for a 2 star. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast was not that bad and there was enough to choose from to ensure that no-one went hungry. Overall I would say that the only thing that let this hotel down was the rooms. But with some refurbishment, modernisation, air conditioning, tvs etc then this would be an ideal place to stay. It is in a great location in a great resort. However don't expect luxury from the rooms.
