My partner and I stayed at the Costa d'Or for three nights in September, after spending four nights in Port de Soller. The hotel is so relaxing, that we felt like we'd been there a fortnight! The location is stunning, the staff helpful and friendly, the service is excellent, and the food is second to none! We spoke to people who had been there a week and never left the hotel. All meals were served on the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea, with the indoor dining room used during the cooler months.
With views to die for, a pool and terrace overlooking the sea, fantastic rooms, fine food and wine, why would you want to go anywhere else if all you want to do is relax? That said, we did venture out along the paths below the hotel overlooking the sea. Walking through the pine trees we found a rocky 'beach', where we swam and enjoyed the solitude. Walking to the left you come to Cala Deia, another rocky beach, with a terraced cafe that serves delicious food in an enviable location. The walk there along the cliff and through the pine trees takes about 45 mins, but you need to allow a further 30-40 mins to walk inland to Deia itself.
Deia is simply stunning. On a rocky outcrop, it soars above the valley but is dwarfed by the horseshoe of mountains that act as a backdrop. The restaurants here too are superb. We'd recommend Sa Vinyas, up the hill to the left of the main street. I wouldn't advise walking back to the hotel along the main road as it is very windy, quite busy, and there are no sidewalks. A bus goes from Deia to the Hotel (and beyond) every 2 hours, or, if you're lucky you can get a taxi.
We came back from our holiday about half a stone heavier, yet determined to return at the earliest opportunity. This really is a very, very special hotel.
