“Good value for money...”

A friendly and very welcoming hotel staff! We could not asked for anything more, considering the money we spent.

Clean room with a fantastic view over the ocean, clean pool, ok food, quite hotel close to everything you need on a lazy holiday.

The hotel is situated in a posh residential area, which I considered as something positive.

A big thank you to the wonderful staff of Costa Portals, who helped us out with dry cleanning (even though not offered at the hotel), gave us the opportunity to compose our own lunches, even though we were all inclusive guests and over all, they always greeted us with a warm smile.

I would like to come back!

Thanks from Ida from Sweden

“Great location, friendly small hotel.”

I recently spent one week at this hotel. We found the staff to be responsive to our needs and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was good, with a wide selection of cereals. Dinner was ok, but lacked choices. By american standards, the beds were extremely hard, but by EU standards they were acceptable. Our bicycles were safely stored in the hotels garage and unlike other hotels on the island I have stayed at, they were well taken care of and very secure. I highly recommend the hotel for cyclist looking for a good base from which to ride the island.

“Can do better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

Basic - if you get a really good deal, it's ok - clean rooms (although ants in bathroom and HUGE cockroach on last day in our room?!?), pool nice - small but great for couples/adults. Not great for children. Food - POOR. We're not fussy so found some things okay but main evening meals not good. Salad bar and puddings ok. Breakfast - continental, good choice and nice. Cooked - very greasy, not pleasant. Staff - oh dear, this was a problem and I agree with the previous review I'm afraid. Rude, grumpy, unhelpful- honestly, most acted like they really disliked you! Why? This puzzled us......the 2 "chefs" who stood outside the kitchen on occasion were pretty friendly and one of the receptionists ok and our cleaner was a LOVELY lady so thank you to her! Sorry to be this negative but as I said - BASIC hotel. Could do better! Oh yeah - no hairdryer in room - had to go and get one from reception every evening to use: this is a 3 star hotel!

“Not going back!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

We stayed in the hotel last year with no issues....basic hotel, ideal for a base to explore the area. You would not stay in the hotel during the day, nothing happens, bar closes early...not a problem five minutes from the Marina in a taxi...10 minutes walk from the village. Chemilies and the local bars are great, Lloyds and The Ship good value for a quick pit stop. Kariba bar is a let down, went last year...no issues...this year the staff look down there noses at you, and our party was treated like 3rd class citizens.....anyway...back to the hotel. We went back to the hotel mainly because the facilities matched what we needed......this year a very negative stay. First morning, went for breakfast, runs to 10.00....got in for 9.45.....the waitress went off on one, shouting at the guy on reception......lights out at 10.10......!!!! She thinks 10.00 is closed.....not guest friendly....spoke to other guests and everyone felt uncomfortable when 10.00 approached when she was on duty. We picked up some fruit to take with us............all hell broke out.........Not many of the staff look happy in there work,...a young girl now works there, no smiles, no nothing.....influenced by the the other waitress.. The breakfast was basic last year, no change, but the quality has gone down, you can not drink more than one cup of coffee, >>>severe acid indigestion otherwise. The hotel has a new Manager, and at no point did he or the reception try to apologise or make any attempt to try and make our stay a little more pleasant. Since the first morning we got in for breakfast, we both felt like second class citizens.....customer care and wanting guests to come back are not a priority to this hotel, which did surprise us as the receptionist pointed out on our arrival that half the hotel was closed due to lack of bookings!!! We then had our room key blocked...they thought we were leaving a day earlier than booked!!!.....again no aplogies....We will be going back to Portals........but not staying here again. Would not recomend.....Hotel has great potential.....need to re train the staff, or get people in that understand customer service, and that it is the guests that keep the hotel in business......This is the very first time I have reviewed anything before, but we both feel that strongly about our experiences, we feel that people should know what they will be getting in terms of service.

Dear guest Chesirebaggie,

First of all, thank you for your review upon our hotel, I truly believe in the social media and I am convinced that guests reviews can help other potential guests to choose one accommodation or another.

However, there are a few things of your review that in my opinion were not exactly as you explain them, and, in order to really help people in knowing our hotel, I would like to explain how I saw them.

Hotel Costa Portals is a quiet three star hotel, completelly renovated in 2007, in an excellent location and with a high guest satisfaction rate. As far as the food is concerned, we have prepared a buffet rotation for both breakfast and dinner specially designed to cater different international tastes.

Since is a small hotel, I personally speak regularly with most of the guests and I can tell you that everyone is REALLY HAPPY about our food and beverage facilities, specially with our Gala Dinner, which takes place twice a week.

I remember perfectly the incident in the breakfast with theese guests. In the review they write only suspension points (...), I suposse that's because they are ashamed of the things they shouted to the waitress who was only doing her job and following the hotel rules concerning the restaurant, written in a clearly visible notice at the restaurant door.

I sincerely consider that is not us who should apologise, but those guest, to the hotel for their behaviour, and to the poor waitress, still upset for the way they treat her.

For me and for all the staff the satisfaction of our guests is the most important thing, and we put our efforts in doing so every day.

I think that it's important to have the two sides of the information, I know is my word against the guest's, (or the other way around), but you can see other reviews to help ypu decide who to believe.

Best regards from Mallorca!!!

“cosy hotel, great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

This hotel is very peaceful and quiet, but still close to the busy beach and party areas. Food was ok, could have been a bit more varied. Beds aren't comfortable enough, but that was the biggest problem with the hotel, so overall i would recommend it for everyone, especially for couples and families.
