We visited in the first week of October to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We had been to the Bonanza Playa before (about 6 times in fact) but not for the last 3 years. We were pleased to be able to say that, yet again, we had a good holiday at the hotel. When you've been somewhere a few times you can start to see how things are run (in our view) and we continue to be impressed by the standard of management here. There has to be a special mention for the restaurant and its hard working staff. The food is buffet style (with an optional a la carte menu) and is of a very good quality, with a wide choice of dishes, literally from omelettes through to caviar. The maitre d' in the restaurant is Pepe, who is not only good at his job but who also, on gala nights, wanders amongst the diners with an accordionist giving a good rendition of O Sole Mio which delights everyone.
Although the room allocated to us was very good we asked Reception if we could have one we had stayed in before. We did send a request via the Riu website for this a couple of weeks before but it had not been sent on to the hotel. After initially saying that this was not possible due to other bookings, they then, the next day, did make it happen even though we were happy to stay in the first room. It would be helpful to show direct email contacts for each hotel on the Riu website although Reception did say it is best to call them with requests. The rooms are comfortable and reasonably well equipped although we would like to see tea and coffee making facilities included which you would normally expect to find in a hotel of this standard.
The level of customer service and courtesy is very high. We have always been made to feel very welcome here and we really enjoy the holiday. The entertainment we liked best was the flamenco dancing and this certainly seemed to pull the best crowd of the week. We would like to see more Spanish entertainers (classical guitarist maybe?) rather than the more generic style of singers and musicians.
Overall, if you want a quietly pleasant and relaxing holiday we would recommend the hotel and the resort. No, it's not a cheap holiday but if you want a good standard of service, good facilities and accommodation within a reasonable price band then it is good value for money. Also, there is a lot that some of our UK hotels could learn about customer service from this hotel. It's easy to get into Palma from here, just a 30 min bus ride from directly outside the hotel. You can also walk up to Bendinat where there is a good golf course and restaurants if you don't mind a bit of hilly walk.
All in all we have no complaints, we love it here and we will be back again for sure.
