4 days - booked on-line with direct emails to hotel, cheap flight from blackpool - just the two of us for a lie-on-the-beach recharge of the batteries.
The hotel is spot on - small enough to feel intimate, large enough for all the eminities you would like from a larger hotel - including a proper fridge in the room, and a shower and secure baggage room for late depatures.
B+B - breakfast straight forward -continental, with a quick nod towards egg and bacon - though mainly caters for the german market - of which i suspect the majority of the clients were. However, the multi-lingual hotel staff couldnt be more helpful and friendly.
Room very clean and well looked after. Pretty standard, but everything worked very well - ie- shower and en suite excellent, TV worked properly, as did the proper fridge, Beds good, sheets good quality etc.
Strongly recommend the extra couple of bob for a sea view in the hotel. Spectacular view of the beach and cove. Beautiful crystal clear blue and gently lapping sea less than a 100 yds from the hotel. Only small disadvantage is no air-con -just a fan. However - slept with balcony door open, with gentle sea breeze. Worked a treat - and first time ever away my wife hasnt been bitten once.
Other than breakfast, didnt eat at the hotel. There are a few places to choose from - though our favourite was the place right on the beach. Informal, perfect view of the beach and sea for a really relaxed, good quality evening meal. Prices probably a shade under what you might expect to pay in the UK - and a little cheaper than the other 2 main restaurants.
The beach and cove is superb. Super fine sand - I generally am not a fan of sand - gets everywhere and into everything blah blah - but this was really good, powder soft. Beach can get busy - but never over crowded when we were there. Very friendly family atmosphere which, because we left the kids behind (for the first time in 10 years - will they ever forgive us !), wasnt too bad - and infact added to the atmosphere of the beach. Water was really good - warm and never choppy / heavy tidal, snorkelling excellent along the cove rocks, and the diving in off the rock sides was just great - felt like a whooping kid again - brilliant fun.
Two other points - We had a look at the other beaches in the area - inc Mondrago and Llombards - Cala Santanyi is, for us atleast, by far the best beach.
Secondly - Take in the Santanyi market - we didnt spend enough time in Santanyi, and we regret it - The market is good - the town suprisingly pretty and charming.
In Summary - we loved it . We are generally cautious to whole-heartedly recommend somewhere, because people look for different things - but i have no qualms in strongly recommending both the hotel, and the beach for a short break. We are planning to back as we type the review !
