“Great family holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We (me, husband, and 2 kids (4 & 2) went on holiday here for two weeks in the middle of June 2011. Lovely first impression - very clean abd helpful staff and this lasted throughout the holiday. The food was good in the buffet restaurant which was always busy. Something different every day as well as the staples. Good selection for kids too - and we have one fussy eater. The other restaurants were also lovely and a little less hectic but with the wee ones we stuck mainly to the main buffet restaurant.

The apartments are modern and spread out in a village style. Ours was a 1 bed apartment at the far end of the complex which was a few minutes walk from the main hotel area. This suited us as it was well away from the main entertainment at night if we wanted to take the kids back early.

The kids entertainment was great - my kids loved Smiley and his friends everynight before the main entertainment. Also for the kids there is a couple of kids pools and a playpark as well as the kids club. Our kids didn't go to the club but it looked well organised and good fun.

Plenty to do for adults too - football, tennis, table tennis, boules, archery, pilates, spinning (if you like that kind of thing on holiday!) Much more to my holiday taste was the spa, which wasn't too pricey. I had an indian head massage which was fab.

There are plenty pools to choose from and the beach is right at the complex. The beach is a lovely wee shallow cove and the hotel's beach restaurant is right there so you can go there for lunch and for drinks. One small downside is that there are no parasols/sun shades provided. There is however shade to be had from trees around the pool so it's not too much of a problem. No need to take beach towels as you can get them from the hotel for a small deposit.

The hotel is a bit out of Cala D'Or so it's not for you if you like to be in the hubub and the centre of a town but this didn't bother us at all as the entertainment was good at the hotel. We did hire a car for a day and visited the Caves of Drach and had a wee drive round the coast to see a few different places. Hiring the car and visiting Caves of Drach ourselves was, by the way was cheaper for us than doing the Thomas Cook organised trip.

There are a few shops on site too - the wee supermarket has everything you will need from nappies and sun cream to beer, crisps, fruit and sweeties as well as the all important buckets and spades.

All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday. The kids loved it and so did we - so much so that we have broken our rule of not going back to the same place and have booked to go again in June 2012.

“Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

Me and my husband went to Cala Barca for our honeymoon. On arrival the hotel was very beautiful. The only dissapointment we had was one of the restaurants was closed for the season. The food was very tasty, there was a bit of everything for everyone. The rooms were spacious and very well kept clean. We had a wonderful two weeks there. The whole hotel complex was kept clean to a hight standard. However there was one thing us and a couple of other English tourists had : the husband and wife team who run the newsagents/gift shop in the row shops available were rude, unhelpful and had no manners to the customers at all. We didn't feel welcome in that shop, the wife followed people around and we felt like they were talking and laughing at us. Not a good atmosphere :-(. That is the only criticism we had. The other staff including the other shop owners were extremely wonderful and helpful. They worked hard and had answers for any question we had for them. The maid for room 5576 was warm, friendly and diligent. There is one person who me and my husband found wonderful and deserves some sort of reward/bonus, he is called JESUS, he mainly worked in the LOBBY BAR, NIGHT CLUB. He was warm, friendly, hospitable and remebered our order when we went to the bar. He always said hello and gave my husband a few pats on the back as if we were old friends. We recommend he gets some sort of "treat".We cannot sing his praises enough. Thank you so much for making our honeymoon special. We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves so much. Thank you again x

Room Tip: High floors over looking the tennis courts are quieter

“Great hotel......”

Just returned on weds 12 th Oct after a 2 week holiday at this hotel. First impression, lovely.Upsides - Hotel reception so fresh and clean as was the whole resort. Couldnt get over how clean the whole place was. So many cleaner's busy busy constantly cleaning. Food was so good, fresh, hot and so much choice every day. We had a family room and it was great, had to change to a ground floor room due to too many steps with 2 pushchairs but the reception staff more than happy to help. Not a good resort in my opinion for small children. Loads and loads of steps around, pool area not great for small children really. There was 1 baby pool but it was always shaded resulting in the water so cold. Overall would recommend but not to families with small children, also when we were there for the 2 weeks only spoke to a handful of english, after chatting to one of the rep's he informed us that the hotel doesnt have alot of English guests. Not a huge problem but if we'd have known this we would have choosen another hotel that was more English. Highly recommend hiring a car as the hotel is alittle out and the only transport ther was was a open top bus, which the children loved or taxi. Takes a good 20 mins to cal d'or, nearest town with a few shops and plenty of resturants. Overall great holiday and the weather amazing :0)

Room Tip: Ground floor room for families, BUT they dont have bath's.......

“Excellent Holiday (were fortunate with room) Useful info within hopefully”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Couple plus a boy aged 2 ¾ stayed 10 nights 13-23rd September all inclusive. £1100 via sunshine (booked 2 weeks before travel). Was described as a promotional room (the cheapest option) so expected to end up in row Z. The only request I made was for a room with a large balcony (following a tip from a reviewer on here).

Got private taxi transfer (£67.50 each way) which took 40-45 minutes. We heard from others that coach transfers were just as quick.

Reception staff were friendly and helpful. On arrival we struck it lucky as we were allocated a first floor room/apartment (5150) which was in a perfect location above the Mediterranean restaurant – central but quiet. Massive balcony overlooked the swimming pools with views through the trees to the sea and beach - result! The rooms above ours were the suites!

Apartment was spacious and clean. Mini fridge, microwave, Excellent shower. TV had English channels: BBC1, BBC2, ITV, BBC World, CNN and EuroSport. Strangely the ITV channel would start to freeze when popular shows were on. One problem we did have was with the aircon – it didn’t work at times (maintenance fixed it by blowing some water out of one of the pipes). I’m convinced it didn’t react well to being switched on and off all the time (switches off when you open the patio door or remove the card ‘key’) so my advice is to switch it to fan mode when appropriate.

Pools were excellent – 2 river like pools in the main complex with some shallow areas plus a separate small circular kids pool. Nearby was the sports pool which didn’t appear to have any shallow end. Over the road (where I would guess half or more of the rooms are) there was a big adults pool and fair size kids pool.

No problem getting a sunbed at all (we stayed the week after all UK schools had gone back). Lots of shade from trees around the river pools which we liked. Hotels towels available for 10E deposit and change as often as you like + use on beaches.

Good kids playground, a few useful shops including small spa supermarket (largely reasonable prices). Weather forecast in reception. Internet 1E for 10 minutes. Laundry 3E for washer, 3E for drier.

Hotel beach small – good size sandy beach but small swimming area (and water not crystal clear) with quite a few stones / rocks.

Cala Bogit about a 10 minute walk away. Uneven pathway led to a small beach – smaller beach area than the hotel beach but bigger swimming area. Water nice and clear, sandy and shallow but big waves unless you swim out into the open.

Cala Mondrago can be reached in 20-25 minutes. We walked back via the roads (very quiet - you question where on earth you are going lol) with a buggy and it took us 25 minutes. If you don’t have a buggy/young kids it’s quickest to go via Cala Bogit beach – down onto the beach then join the footpath on the other side leading into the woodland/nature park and follow the path – you can’t go too far wrong.

Taxi to Cala Mondrago was E5.50. Cala Mondrago definitely worth the effort to get to. 2 good size beaches with warm, clear waters which are shallow and with gentle waves. Lovely beaches! We preferred the larger of the two beaches – short walk around the corner via low level cliff path. Public loos at first beach.

Restaurant could get very busy at times and finding a table was not always straightforward. Food in the main restaurant was good considering the number of people it was catering for. Options didn’t change that often – show cooking section provided some lovely food at times.

Mediterannean Restaurant was higher quality but not much for kids. In each restaurant 5 soft drinks, red, white and rose, water, one beer and a coffee/drinks machine were all on tap.

Mexican restaurant was closed – a shame as I love Mexican food.

Bars provided coffee/drinks machine and 5 soft drinks on tap. Had to order any other drinks you wanted but never had to wait long if at all. They appeared to offer any drink you wanted. We largely kept it old school and enjoyed Tequila Sunrise and Pina Colada from the cocktail machine lol.

Son too young for the kids club (4+). It took 3 year old but only if the parent stayed with them. There was a crèche on site for 6 to 36 month olds. I believe it was run by Thomas Cook (Germany) and was called Baby Walz. Not many places but seemed to be open to everyone –we didn’t use it.

Evening entertainment aimed at kids – they seemed to enjoy it. We were happy to head back to our apartment and chill while our son slept.

Ways to improve – food stations for children / more options for children’s food. Complimentary Water in mini-fridge on arrival.

We were lucky with our room. Others (some arrived on the same day) were in the other part of the complex over the road and that meant a long walk to ‘the action’.

Overall our holiday met our expectations – we choose it for what our son would enjoy (decent pools). It’s probably not a place for people without children.

Room Tip: Request a room on the main-complex side of the road. Request a room with a large balcony - worked...

“A Fantastis Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

My husband and I have just got back from our holiday at the Club Cala Baca, and we have had the most fantastic time. I was slightly aprehensive on booking the hotel hoping it wouldn't be too out of the way from another town as I knew we'd be too far away to walk into a town. The location was actually perfect because there was a town Cala d'or a short and cheep bus ride away and for a night return in a taxi just 11-12 Euro's.
The hotel was so huge like a small village, there was lots to walk around and see with 2 private beaches in beautifull little coves, and the beach at the top crystal clear waters and not a rock in sight. But be aware that far out there may be Jelly Fish, as my husband was stung 3 times on the arm on a scuber swim looking for fish, and although not leathal and easily treated with an amonia spray still very painful.
The hotel has a fantastic kidsclub in the day and kids and adult entertainment at night which is very good and the animation team are very tallanted and funny, there are also other shows like tributes to singers which we enjoyed. There is also a good selection of activities if you get round to them, like tennis, pool, table tennis, excellent gym and hourse riding which you book with the hotel but is great and cheep at 15 Euro for 1 hour.
When booking I did ask for a suite room which is in the newley renovated part of the hotel, near to the main aminities, bars and resturants but when we arrived they said we had a family room which we went with even though they would have moved us into a new part we decided to stay where we were because the family room was huge and lovley and we didn't mind the walk to and from our room.
We have syayed in Iberostar before and find that the facilities reguarding food and drinks are always very good, but if you havn't then I've just added a comment about the food and drinks.
The food was fantastic through the day and the evening, so much choice, always salads, breads, fruits, yogurts, rice's, massive selection of fish and shell fish, and the cheif's in the evening had always got different meats to calve like chicken, pork, duck, with fantastic sauces to choose, pastas and paella cooking, sweets and icecream, the list honestly goes on.
The drinks were also fantastic, the all inclusive is until 1am in the disco and you can get most drinks and cocktails you ask for, the drinks are there local brands, and you can also have international brands eg. Havanna Club, but there brands are just as nice. You can even get bailies and Cava/champagne. Wine, beer, water, juice and fizzy drinks are on tap in the resturants so you can help yourself it really is a big over induldgence.
The Mediteranian resturant is also very nice, this is the one you book. You have no limit to how many timesw you go you just need to book the day before. We only went once because even though it was very nice, we had smoked salmon, caviar and muscles and beef steaks, there was all this and more in the main resturant.
The only down side to the resturant is it closes at 9.30pm and that is quite early for us especially if your trying to fit in breakfast, dinner, and evening meal, so we had wished there had been a late night snack bar, and on occasions made a sandwich and had that later on at night. So I hope this has been helpfull and we definatly will be returning to this beautiful hotel/place.
Michelle.
