I found this little gem through a B&B website. It was supposed to be a 1-night side trip from DC so I could visit Monticello. However, we got snowed in during a once-in-a-century storm that dumped 28" of snow in an area that had gotten 2" total snow in the previous 8 years. So we stayed an extra night. But the "summer kitchen cottage" is a great place to get snowed in. This historic little building used to be slaves' kitchen quarters for Thomas Jefferson's nephew, with a smokehouse in the attic. Innkeeper Janet has decorated it simply in a way that just delights you with its warmth and functionality: microwave, frig, wood stove, ample bathroom. I'd really love to come back and enjoy this B&B's charm.
