We stayed here in October 2011 HB with Thomas Cook. T/Cook were very efficient and professional as usual. The resort of Cala D'Or comprises about 6 closely located sandy coves, or calas, and the Ponent Playa sits in an outstanding position right on the beach at Cala Ferrera which has the biggest and most attractive beach/cove of them all. Literally 12 steps down from the grounds of the hotel and your feet are on the sand - fantastic! There is also a large sun terrace from where you can sit and look out over the water if you don't want to go on the beach. At the end of this is where the glass-bottomed boat calls in too. The shops/bars begin just round the corner from the hotel and then run straight into Cala D'Or itself about 15 minutes stroll away. Also round the corner are numerous car hire places, the land train stop, and the proper bus stop with a direct route to Palma. I would like to thank Rosario and the other receptionists for being so friendly and for the wonderful room that we had (746). From there we could look left and see low mountains, all the apartments opposite and then down below the entire beach and deep blue sea. It was beautiful. The room was nicely decorated with huge wardrobe/drawer space and kept spotlessly clean along with everywhere else. Hotel facilities are good including crazy golf, tennis court, pool with loungers and bar, terrace bar, small indoor pool, and 2 large interior bar/lounges. The activities team were always friendly and enthusiastic, and I particularly enjoyed the French bowls with the lovely Miriam. There is a really nice mix of nationalities here - UK, French, Dutch etc and the choice for breakfast reflected every taste with cereal, egg/bacon, toast, cheeses, yoghurt, rolls, crossants etc. Evening meal also had a large choice with fish, meat, salads, stews etc. plus cakes or fruit for dessert so the food was good quality and nicely prepared. My only woe was that I got an upset stomach 2 days before we came back, although anything could have caused this. On our last evening meal we were given a free glass of champagne as a gift, and on what should have been our last full day a free lunchtime meal from the restaurant. Then when reception found our flights were altered and we would be in the hotel longer, we got another free lunch on our actual departure day! Plus they let us keep our room on at no charge until the coach came to pick us up in the afternoon. THANKYOU! There is a good spirit about this hotel that I have not encountered before. We never wanted this holiday to end. The hotel actually closed the day we left yet the high standards were maintained throughout. Fantastic. Highly recommended.
