We stayed at the rocador hotel half board from 18th to 26th august 2011. 2 adults and 2 children 1 aged 8 and the other aged 3. upon arrival at about 11pm on the thursday evening we were allocated a second floor room which was perfect (apart from the balcony) and had a sea view. The room was very large and clean and the bathroom was also very large with 2 wash basins, bath, shower, toilet and bidet and also very clean with white tiled floor throughout the appartment. The curtains and wall lights could do with updating but they worked perfectly fine. The balcony door felt a tad flimsy, when it was closed u couldnt hear a thing from outside i.e the sea splashing against the rocks and beach. The balcony was great infact perfect with a beautifull sea view and it also looked down directly onto the garden and childrens play area, but as i had a 3 yr old with me who loves climbing on everything and anything i decided that in the morning i would ask if it was possible to get a ground floor room. when we checked in we were told that some food had been left out for us in the resturant area as we arrived so late and had missed dinner, it wasnt much some bread rolls, salad and ham and also refreshments but was very thoughfull and much appreciated as we were very hungry. we then headed to the bar where the drinks werent the cheapest but the measures definitely made up for that and then decided to head for bed which i must say didnt have the thickest of matresses (i often have difficulty sleeping in a strange bed) but i had a whole week of great sleep so they couldnt have been that bad. Next morning we headed to the beach but not before asking about another room to which i was told they had 1 available but it was in the rocador playa next door and was asked to pop back in half hour as it was just being cleaned which i did. I was then given the keycard for the room and allowed to go and have a look round the room to see if it was suitable, unfortunately it was smaller than the room we had and also had bunkbeds in it which i didnt think to be the safest although they were very sturdy just no safety guard round the top bunk so i politely declined the room and stuck to the room we were allocated just keeping an extra close eye on my cheeky little climbing mad monkey. (just to note we had NO incidents with the balcony over the 8 days we stayed thankfully). so back to the beach which was lovely just very very crowded and was very difficult to find a place to put down your towel however the kids prefered to be by 1 of the 3 pools on offer by the hotel. The pools appeared to be clean and in good repair. The main pool with adjoined childs pool was the busier pool and was in need of a great deal more sunbeds surrounding it, u had to be up very early to get a bed round that pool however the other pool in the rocador playa hotel was much quieter and also had a childs pool unfortunately it wasnt joined to the main pool and was set up to the side and completely shaded by trees which meant the pool was very cold and the kids didnt want to play in it not a problem tho as both my children are competent swimmers and prefered to be in the main pool anyway. i cant comment on the indoor pool as we never used it. The hotel offered entertainment 3 nights a week which was ok but nothing spectacular however the many bars situated in the surrounding streets offered pleanty entertainment, 1 in particular called Tropical Gardens offering live entertainment nightly was a big hit with the kids and also many adults, from 8.30pm there was a kids disco and games and then from around 9.30 they had a live tribute act Monday- Michael Buble, Tuesday- The Beatles, Wednesday- Lady ga ga, Thursday- Abba, Friday- Robbie Williams, Saturday- Jon Paul Bradshaw and alternate sundays westlife and girls so loud a deffinate venue to visit especially with the kids. We didnt eat out (except for lunchtime) on this holiday and unlike some reviewers we thought the food was 5* and 1 of my children is a very fussy eater. Breakfast (please beware the resturant can get very busy) consisted of a selection of cereals, yogurt, bread rolls, bread for toasting ( butter, marg, jam and marmalade always available). The chef was busy at the hotplates where you could watch him cooking the food fresh. Available on the buffet counter in the morning was a variety of items, bacon, bolied eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns ect ect how can you complain at that. Dinner time again busy resturant every night there was a selction of salad, hams, cheese, bread rolls and pasta again the chef was show cooking every evening and there was something different on every night pork, veal, venison, chicken, a variety of fish and always veg, meatballs, paella, battered veg, calimari, fish fingers and much more. The desserts were to die for and again a variety every night fresh fruit, jelly, ice-cream, blamonge and pastries deliciously mouth watering both my children were very well fed for the entire holiday and often went up for seconds which was very pleasing as like i said my daughter is very fussy, as for lunch there is a bar by the main pool where you can get delicious toasties amongst other things and also drinks or you could opt for 1 of they many other eateries in the surrounding streets. Overall i would say that we had an amazing holiday the hotel was fantastic and the food 5* and cala d'or itself was beautifull and we had outstanding weather for the whole 8 days and the appartment also had air conditioning which wasnt and optional extra and incured no charge for use oh and a tv with kids channels to keep them entertained when your getting ready to go out for the evening . excellent holiday, fab hotel and food would go back at the drop of a hat and would recommend to others.
