“Not luxury,but very good.”

We stayed at the Rocador for a family holiday in may11, the hotel had everything we needed the rooms clean and comfortable, a perfect location close to beach shops restaurants. I wouldn't call this a luxury hotel but it is still good, the views are fantastic. We were bed and breakfast, the food was ok but glad we didn't pay more for half board. There are lots of lovely restaurants nearby our favourite was the Aquarius at the marina.Overall I think this is a good hotel, good value for money and felt quite Spanish which these days in Majorca is hard to find! The resort in early May is very quiet ,if u like it more bustling maybe go end may or June.

“Excellent stay yet again”

could only go to Cala D'or for three nights this year to meet up with friends already there.Travelling by myself I requested a room for single use and was given a sea facing double. Bathroom had double sinks, hairdrier, excellent shower with fresh towells each day. Room was tiled throughout with air conditioning, TV and balcony.Maids did room each day even though I was only there for 3 days. Food this year was perfect, good selection and all piping hot,(including breakfast) with everything being cooked properly and not overcooked. The staff are still the same people who have worked there for years and are very welcoming and helpfull, I might add that this is the 14th time I have been to this hotel so I have seen a lot of subtle changes over the years (air con,TV,room refurbs, garden improvements. safety rails, upholstery refurbs, sun shades) HOWEVER the sun loungers are rather tired and could do with replacing. The hotel is perfectly situated being on the beach and only a short walk to the town centre for shops etc. Entertainment was not to my liking but a lot of people did enjoy it (flamenco dancers one night and a duo another) Will be back there again next year

Room Tip: Ask for the type of room eg pool, sea or beach facing.

“Excellent hotel would definitely return”

We stayed at the rocador hotel half board from 18th to 26th august 2011. 2 adults and 2 children 1 aged 8 and the other aged 3. upon arrival at about 11pm on the thursday evening we were allocated a second floor room which was perfect (apart from the balcony) and had a sea view. The room was very large and clean and the bathroom was also very large with 2 wash basins, bath, shower, toilet and bidet and also very clean with white tiled floor throughout the appartment. The curtains and wall lights could do with updating but they worked perfectly fine. The balcony door felt a tad flimsy, when it was closed u couldnt hear a thing from outside i.e the sea splashing against the rocks and beach. The balcony was great infact perfect with a beautifull sea view and it also looked down directly onto the garden and childrens play area, but as i had a 3 yr old with me who loves climbing on everything and anything i decided that in the morning i would ask if it was possible to get a ground floor room. when we checked in we were told that some food had been left out for us in the resturant area as we arrived so late and had missed dinner, it wasnt much some bread rolls, salad and ham and also refreshments but was very thoughfull and much appreciated as we were very hungry. we then headed to the bar where the drinks werent the cheapest but the measures definitely made up for that and then decided to head for bed which i must say didnt have the thickest of matresses (i often have difficulty sleeping in a strange bed) but i had a whole week of great sleep so they couldnt have been that bad. Next morning we headed to the beach but not before asking about another room to which i was told they had 1 available but it was in the rocador playa next door and was asked to pop back in half hour as it was just being cleaned which i did. I was then given the keycard for the room and allowed to go and have a look round the room to see if it was suitable, unfortunately it was smaller than the room we had and also had bunkbeds in it which i didnt think to be the safest although they were very sturdy just no safety guard round the top bunk so i politely declined the room and stuck to the room we were allocated just keeping an extra close eye on my cheeky little climbing mad monkey. (just to note we had NO incidents with the balcony over the 8 days we stayed thankfully). so back to the beach which was lovely just very very crowded and was very difficult to find a place to put down your towel however the kids prefered to be by 1 of the 3 pools on offer by the hotel. The pools appeared to be clean and in good repair. The main pool with adjoined childs pool was the busier pool and was in need of a great deal more sunbeds surrounding it, u had to be up very early to get a bed round that pool however the other pool in the rocador playa hotel was much quieter and also had a childs pool unfortunately it wasnt joined to the main pool and was set up to the side and completely shaded by trees which meant the pool was very cold and the kids didnt want to play in it not a problem tho as both my children are competent swimmers and prefered to be in the main pool anyway. i cant comment on the indoor pool as we never used it. The hotel offered entertainment 3 nights a week which was ok but nothing spectacular however the many bars situated in the surrounding streets offered pleanty entertainment, 1 in particular called Tropical Gardens offering live entertainment nightly was a big hit with the kids and also many adults, from 8.30pm there was a kids disco and games and then from around 9.30 they had a live tribute act Monday- Michael Buble, Tuesday- The Beatles, Wednesday- Lady ga ga, Thursday- Abba, Friday- Robbie Williams, Saturday- Jon Paul Bradshaw and alternate sundays westlife and girls so loud a deffinate venue to visit especially with the kids. We didnt eat out (except for lunchtime) on this holiday and unlike some reviewers we thought the food was 5* and 1 of my children is a very fussy eater. Breakfast (please beware the resturant can get very busy) consisted of a selection of cereals, yogurt, bread rolls, bread for toasting ( butter, marg, jam and marmalade always available). The chef was busy at the hotplates where you could watch him cooking the food fresh. Available on the buffet counter in the morning was a variety of items, bacon, bolied eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns ect ect how can you complain at that. Dinner time again busy resturant every night there was a selction of salad, hams, cheese, bread rolls and pasta again the chef was show cooking every evening and there was something different on every night pork, veal, venison, chicken, a variety of fish and always veg, meatballs, paella, battered veg, calimari, fish fingers and much more. The desserts were to die for and again a variety every night fresh fruit, jelly, ice-cream, blamonge and pastries deliciously mouth watering both my children were very well fed for the entire holiday and often went up for seconds which was very pleasing as like i said my daughter is very fussy, as for lunch there is a bar by the main pool where you can get delicious toasties amongst other things and also drinks or you could opt for 1 of they many other eateries in the surrounding streets. Overall i would say that we had an amazing holiday the hotel was fantastic and the food 5* and cala d'or itself was beautifull and we had outstanding weather for the whole 8 days and the appartment also had air conditioning which wasnt and optional extra and incured no charge for use oh and a tv with kids channels to keep them entertained when your getting ready to go out for the evening . excellent holiday, fab hotel and food would go back at the drop of a hat and would recommend to others.

“A Perfectly "FINE" Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

We have just returned from a weeks stay half board at the rocador playa. after leaving things a little late we were left with a very minimal selection of hotels in cala d'or and after reading many reviews about this hotel I was reluctant to book. but we did. I expected the worse and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were warm and welcoming and very helpful. During the stay I needed to see a doctor and the hotel staff arranged everything and within 15 min one had been called and was at my room. Yes the hotel is dated and odd in places but this added to the joy., it was not an average chain but a little quirky. The hotel could do with a revamp, the carpeted floor in our room and dated bathroom have seen better days, but it was clean, the air con was amazing, a good selection of TV channels to watch of an evening, and a balcony with a view overlooking the beach. It was safe and homely. The food is the poorest thing about the hotel and I would advise not going half board. the selection is poor, odd and disappointing in the evening. breakfast is OK, nothing special but breads cheeses and some hot food available. The locating is fantastic 5 min from the centre where there are amazing restaurants , and 1 min to the beach. All in all a perfectly fine hotel, not 5 star but a good cheap hotel in an amazing location. we will book again.

“Not all bad, but a lot of it was”

If you manage to get a cheap deal on this hotel, i.e. less than £100per night for a quadruple room on half board basis, then you get what you pay for, any more than that, you are over spending. The hotel, as most other reviewers have commented on, is very tired and crumbling in places. The food is at times ok but on average poor quality. Breakfast is Ok, different types of bread, cereal, pastries and rather yummy pancakes!Jam incredibly poor quality, lots of rubber type cheese slices, cheap salamis, etc. Dinner however was generally awful, unless you like your food overcooked and enjoy psychedelic looking jellies and blancmanges for dessert. A couple of times though the grilled meats and fish were quite nice.
The beach is indeed lovely but so overcrowded that by 12 noon there is less than a metre between you and the next towel. As a result you are constantly covered in sand as people try to slalom in between towels to get to the water, which is clear but rather cold. We stayed at the Rocador (not Playa, thank goodness!) and the pool was Ok. People with little kids beware though, there isn't a lifeguard anywhere on site and while there are always plenty of people around the outside pool, the indoor one is normally deserted so if a toddler was to enter this area when mum and dad aren't looking for a moment it could be disastrous.
The resort is OK, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants but hardly chic as I had heard it would be. The staff were mostly friendly and when I requested a room change as our balcony had broken tiles, the reception staff were accomodating and immediately showed me an alternative which I accepted. The decor is very old fashioned and the mattresses uncomfortable but the thing I detested the most was the fact that there are no mattress protectors and only a thin cotton sheet between you and a smelly mattress. The room was cleaned daily and we were provided with clean towels every day too. All in all though we managed to make the most of our week in Cala D'or and had a couple of lovely day trips to Colonia St Jordi by bus and Cala Mondrago on the Starfish boat.
If you have already booked, request the Rocador not Playa and maybe pack some extra sheets/mattress protectors, if not then maybe shop around.
Another point to consider if you are going with young children is that there is no animation, evening disco, etc. On Friday evening there were flamenco dancers who were very good and on Monday night a duo called Bruno & Lino playing live music but I cannot comment on them as we went out. That however was the extent of the evening entertainment for the week.

Room Tip: Pack extra sheets/mattress protectors, shower gel/shampoo
