“Great family destination”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

Booked this last minute and delighted with our choice. Nice large room overlooking pool. Lots of activity and yes it's mostly Germans but so what - there were plenty of other nationalities there as well including a healthy compliment of British. We did not go all inclusive but pretty well everyone else did. Ate a few times in the resort - great food and value - 35 euros for 2 adults, an 11 yr old and a 4 yr old and that included drinks. Entertainment every night and they also did some theme nights: the fiesta night was great with the pool beds decked out in white and the area surrounded with candles. Cala Bona itself was very nice and family orientated - everyone was home and in bed by 2330!. Cala Melor was slap bang next door and more lively so you have choices. I;d go back to Cala Bona and to this hotel.

“Nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

We stayed as Self Catering, lovely place, lots to do with 4 pools, accom was good for self catering, we bought mugs as the cups are small and took a travel kettle, there is a kettle in the room but it is for the cooker hot plate. We were visiting our friend Faz at Sanddancers bar, the accom was only a short walk up 2 streets and not far from all the entertainment bars.

Room Tip: Ground and first floor Self Catering have the largest patio's, A/Con is free, water by pools is...

“Great resort, great location!”

Overall we were very pleased with this resort. The room was quite big with a lovely long balcony overlooking the pool. We did have a leak in the ceiling after heavy rain but after informing reception it was looked at after an hour. The self catering facilities were basic. We asked reception for a toaster which was delievered within a few hours. The local Spar shops didnt really sell any meats for cooking but after a few days we found a BIP store where we could buy mince, chicken etc.
The resort itself was very large with four pools. The towels were a slight problem but we could still get a lounger by 10 am at block F. If you cant beat them join them!! The entertainment at night was poor as they just mimed and danced around! Overall the staff we,re very friendly and helped us the best they could.
Cala Bona was a lovely resort. Plenty of lovely bars and resurants overlooking the harbour. The beach was very rocky so we took the short walk up to Cala MIllor. Cala Millor was alot busier full of bars and resturants. Alot of karaoke and cocktail bars. We ventured up there a few times but prefered the calmer resort.
Overall we really enjoyed this holiday and would go back in a few years

“Clean & friendly, but walls paper thin ...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Whole resort is very clean & well maintained.
Stayed on the 2nd floor overlooking the tennis courts: Block E. Apartment had decent sized rooms & a nice balcony. The air conditioning was only just adequate. The walls in the room are paper thin, so take ear plugs unless you like to be woken up early. The kitchen was the usual 2 rings, microwave & a fridge. Would have been nice to have a toaster. If you go, take a tin opener & a travel kettle.
We went self catering & ate out every other night. Loads of Spar shops to choose from, but they aren’t really geared for self catering. Very limited things you can cook unless you want to live on soup & tomato pasta for 2 weeks! They stay open til about 10ish every night. Ate in the hotel a couple of times. You just buy a ticket from Reception. Food was reasonable & something for everyone. Don’t have the fruit juice though. It was like neat squash.
Cala Bona is not a big resort, but there is plenty there in terms of shops & restaurants. The beach is not great in that it’s very small & rocky, but if you walk for about 15 mins you get to Cala Millor which has a lovely sandy beach. It’s quite busy but if you walk along you will find somewhere.
The Germans & Dutch didn’t bother us one bit. It was nice not understanding a word they say & yes … the sun beds were all gone by the time we ventured out. Outside our block, there were loads of grassy areas to choose from. On the days we wanted to sunbathe & use the pool, we just took down our picnic blanket & towels & found a spot. By the afternoon, the odd bed would become available & we would grab them as & when. The hotel popped flyers under the door asking people not to reserve beds, but no one seemed to take any notice & I didn’t see anyone from the hotel checking. We tended to go the beach at Cala Millor so this didn’t’ bother us.
Caves of Drach: Didn’t want to pay the prices the excursion companies were charging, so we caught a local bus for 1.70 each way. It was actually a coach & took us right up to the entrance. Be warned: If you get the glass bottomed boat from Cala Bona to Porto Cristo, there is a heck of a walk uphill to the caves.
When you get there, they only allow a certain number of people in the caves on an hourly basis. We got there about 12.30pm & were given the 2pm slot. Think the last slot was 5pm. Caves were beautiful, & I was really enjoying it until we were ushered into a seating area opposite the lake. We then had to wait AGES for everybody else (& there were lots of dawdlers!) to get there before they did a little classical concert on the lake.
Most of the restaurants we went to were lovely. Our favourite was Carlos (walking towards Cala Millor). Be warned … one restaurant brought us olives, bread & garlic mayonnaise when we hadn’t asked for it. They plonked it down & then left before we could say anything. We guessed we’d be charged for it, but hadn’t bargained on being charged 2 euro EACH for the privilege!
Evening entertainment at the resort was dire. The team tried their best, but they were just miming to the music & dancing. We tended to listen to the music on our balcony which was nice. Although, the theme from “Dambusters” for the childrens disco was very amusing!
If you want to play tennis & don’t have rackets with you, Reception will hire some to you for a small fee. Think it was 13 euro for an hour. Ring them first though & check they have enough rackets, because they seemed to have a limited supply.

Room Tip: Take a tin opener & travel kettle ...

We stayed in a 1 bedroom selfcatering apartment, very clean bright and big rooms, nice porch maid service was good, although we were pretty tidy anyway (no teenage sons with us this year) my husband daughter and i had a lovely holiday the floriana resort is big clean lots of lovely gardens and pool sides to chill at, most of the other guests were German or Dutch, only few english families, may have been a problem if our daughter had not met other english girls of around same age but she did so no probs, sunbed chaos as usual if you didnt get up before 7.30-8.00am at latest you didnt get a bed, altough there were thousands of beds around resort, Cala Bona is beautiful full of sea front resturants and bars, peacefull and relaxing, harbour end of resort was most lively but not over top, food and drinks well priced, would go back but only if couldnt find somewere new and exciting to try for right price.

Room Tip: we stayed in block L very quiet, just over road from pool area road was only used by resort staff an...
