We'd read the reviews before booking our week in the Cap de Mar and were hoping for a reasonable hotel. I had emailed the hotel a few days before arriving requesting a quiet room so were quite horrified to be led to a block over the top of the pizzeria where there was a singer who was very loud singing until about midnight. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the apartment, it was quite large, modern and beautifully cean. Unfortunately as well as the live singing we had to contend with the neighbours from hell who insisted on singing, playing music, shouting, banging on walls, etc til the early hours of the morning. To be fair when we complained someone came straight up to the room next door and moaned at them. Eventually we moved rooms to another block as the manager described them as "crazy, crazy people!"
The positives of the hotel as well as it being extremely clean everywhere, are that the buffet breakfast and dinner is of good quality, although not quite as much choice as we've had elsewhere. We did enjoy the food though. Amazingly we could always get sunbeds up til past 9am, whereas it's been about 6am in other hotels! I think this is because lots of people go to the beach which is only a few metres away. The hotel is in a great position being so close to the beach, with a small harbour a few minutes walk to the left and a fantastic pedestrianised area all the way from one end of Cala Bona to the end of Cala Millor probably a good couple of miles in length. There are numerous bars, restaurants and shops all the way along and you can hire so many modes of transport to go along it - single bikes, tandems, bikes for 4, 6, 8 people, electric scooters, battery powered cars for children, go karts, etc. There are pony rides for small children past the harbour as well.
The negatives of the hotel are that it is definitely aimed at the German market with staff speaking very little English. The cleaning staff are fantastic but some of the reception staff are unhelpful and unfriendly. There is absolutely no information about the hotel or equipment in the rooms, you don't know how the lovely LCD tv works or the telephone. There's no info about the indoor pool and spa and we didn't realise anyone could use them until it was almost time to leave, we didn't know there's a computer for guests in reception as it's quite hidden. The outdoor pool is absolutely freezing even in August as different parts of it are in shade for quite a lot of the day. The positive about this is that for people with small children you can always find shade for them to sit in somewhere around the pool. Another negative for our particular family is that there is no outdoor area big enough for our 12 yr old son to kick a ball around in which led to him getting a bit bored sometimes. There is a pool table and a tennis table outside though.
On the whole we would recommend this hotel as the positives outweigh the negatives.
Room Tip: Blocks 1 and higher floors on block 2 have sea views but are probably the most noisy blocks.
