We arrived on a monday 7th June. initial impression very good. Nice rooms, bath, decent bedrooms and a kitchen. When we checked, there was a 2 ring hob that was rusty and probably hadn't been cleaned for some time. Next was trying to get it to work. Anti-clockwise control for each and a timerin the middle. We eventually found that it worked in tandem with the timer, but no grill so not much good really. Heating water for coffee/tea only. No kettle either. Oh well..
Now, would the air conditioning work? We'd specifically booked a hotel with air con as last years holiday didn't have it and we really needed it! Surprise, surprise. No, not working. Down to reception. Lovely and cool...hmm...air con? We were told they(who?) were working on it. half an hour and it will be fixed. Not on our 10 day holiday anyway!
Add to that a french door that couldn't be locked and it wasn't a good start.
Having said that the location was fine. Nice pool. Beach a short walk. Plenty of restaurants on the front but mostly german with said menu's. Go up sidestreets further east from hotel to find a couple of english pubs/restaurants. english menu if you get fed up with schnitzel!
There was unusual weather when we were there and it was cloudy and very windy with a few days of heavy rain. Hire a car and do the sights then.
Overall then a mixed review. You always find something at your hotel thats not right but it would be good if it was resolved. Loads of sunshine would have helped but not lucky this time.

If you are looking for a cheap, cheerful and clean in a fantastic location with lovely staff then stop here. If you are looking for a plush room with all the mod cons then don't bother. The air con was like a fridge when it got going. The pool area was clean and tidy (not a big pool though) and there were always sun beds availible. Yes it could do with a make over here and there, but then again it would be more expensive then. There is no entertainment at nights but as you are so close to the bars etc this did not bother us at all, especially when you wanted a quiet night. Catering facilities were adequate but not fab......... but good enough. Would I go back again ???????? Too right I would.

Some important notes fro UK travellers considering the Maracaibo

1. There is no electric kettle provided in the rooms. You will have to boil water in a saucepan to make that morning cuppa
2. The in house TV system is very poor. Should you wish an english channel go down to the bar and select channel 75 on the satellite tv box this will select BBC world news. This will be on channel 15 or 16 of your room tv.
3. Are you considering this hotel in September ?? our stay was 9 days of heavy rain and thunderstorms, which by all accounts is the "norm" for this month.

The swimming pool and bar area is very nice. (but you cannot reserve the "MAMMOCKS") yes that what is says !!!. But there always seems plenty of places to lay in the sun.

The lobby area internet access is rather costly and be warned that you may put in your coins only to find the system is down.The reception staff are reluctant to refund any losses. So make sure its working before use.
