We've just got back from Clumba Mar and stayed there the last week of September.
Transfer
Similar to most others, our transfer from the airport took 2 hours on arrival, however less than an hour on the way back
Location
Location of this hotel really is perfect. Your 5 mins away from the beach and at the centre of the resort, yet it's really quite so you're not disturbed at all.
Rooms
Rooms were basic but very clean and comfy. Really comfy mattresses, a rain shower and daily housekeeping. Free aircon, nice size balcony, not much more you could need!
Food
Speaking with locals, other guests and reading the reviews, food seems to be one of the biggest complaints. Bearing in mind Clumba Mar is one of the cheapest hotels in the resort, I have to disagree. Whilst not a fussy eater, we were two vegetarians so always a risk going half board! Breakfast was fine, whilst the food wasn't piping hot, there was plenty of selection to fill you up. Juices were a bit rubbish but plenty of fruit instead!
At dinner, there was always a large selection of food, plenty of meat dishes and a selection of veg. There was always a pasta dish with 2 sauces and lots of salads and of course chips! The soups were great and plenty of desserts such as ice creams, fruit, and cakes! One night the chef (noticing we were vegetarians) even made us an extra dish as a surprise, which was very nice of him and gave a personal touch.
Staff
Most staff were great and pleasant. They all seemed to work hard and some looked a bit tired and fed up, but as soon as you showed a bit of appreciation and friendliness, they soon changed their mood.
People
At least 50% of the guests were German and 30% Eastern European so if you've experienced holidays with these guys before you'll know what to expect. Would also explain why some staff were a bit fed up ;) Having said that we met several nice people during our week.
Pool
We only used the pool on site, which was clean, plenty of loungers and not too noisy. The other larger pool was only across the road but there no need to use that one though again it looked nice.
Resort & Beaches
The resort is small with plenty of beachside cafes/bars/restaurants. A few night clubs but we didn't bother with those.
The beach was amazing, and whilst it was busy in parts, all you needed to do was walk along a little further and there was plenty of space.
Overall, considering what we paid (not much), the hotel was very good with no major complaints at all. If you want a quite young couple holiday to relax and spend lots of time on the beach, you can do much worse than this place!
Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the pool on a middle floor. You'll then get a good view and it's...
