We liked staying here as its very close to the beach and town. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious and the pool at the hotel was really nice, great when you are fed up with the sand. Breakfast was really good, we didnt any other meals here.

The staff were polite, but they struggle with english - german is the main spoken language and as mentioned in other reviews about 90% of other guest are german so most evening entertainment is tailored to this.

the main problem was the bar at the base of the hotel, if you are staying in the rooms away from the beach and towards the town end the music goes on till 12, fine if you are out till then but could imagine a nightmare if you had kids with you. The last 2 night of our stay the noise never seemed to stop till 4am, think it overlapped with start of school holidays.

Overall we had a really good stay here, but would request rooms on the beach side at the pool end of the hotel if staying again.

We stayed at the Gran Playa for a week this September. We were duped by the four star rating, which the hotel does not deserve. The rooms had no views, we were facing other buildings. We asked for an alternative room, but the view was again of another building. The television was small, there was no fridge or iron or trouser press. The bathroom was small and dimly lit. The food was mediocre at best although the choice was good. The restaurant manager was impersonal. On the plus side, the reception staff were multilingual, efficient and extremely helpful. The room was cleaned daily and the towels changed daily. The hotel was within 100 yards of a lovely sandy beach. We paid for a four star hotel but got a three star hotel instead.

This hotel is definitely aimed at the German client. All notices, entertainment even the music played at the pool were in German; it was like taking a holiday in Germany on the Med!!
Staff were discourteous, in fact downright rude at times! I was actually SHOUTED AT by waiting staff for requesting a glass of wine not realising it could only be purchased by the bottle! I was SHOUTED AT because my husband went to the bar for a drink after spending 15 minutes trying to attract the attention of the waitress.
I asked the hotel receptionist to arrange car hire, which she assured me she had but then no car arrived an no one knew anything about it.
The majority of staff seemed to be German and only seemed to speak German or spanish......that is when they couldn't understand the English guests! they acquired a surprisingly fluent command of the english language when they ha something to shout at you about!
The food was atrocious, definitely aimed at the German guests but this aside I have never been to a four star hotel where lleft over veg from the previous evening are warmed up and served as part of the breakfast buffet!
Room telephone bill was calculated on Friday lunch and phone switched off even though we did not leave until Saturday evening. Travellers cheques and currency could not be exchanged at reception! I could go on for ever about the shortcomings of this 4 star establishment!
To give credit where it's due the room was relatively modern and well equipped and the maid service was very good.
On the whole we had a lovely holiday but only because we bit the bullet and hired a car enabling us to use the hotel as merely a bolthole. We gave up on the restaurant for most of the week and didn't go near the bar after the first couple of nights.
Majorca is a lovely island but you would do well to steer clear of the THB Gran Playa!!!!!!

Entertainment was poor unless you like bingo and a singing duo or the maintenance man on the keyboards.Don't expect to change your travellers cheque/cash as they don't do it(4 star hotel???)
Location was right near beach which was brill,beware of jellyfish.
Food was very nice,different each night,catering for mostly german and spanish,but overall very nice.
If you want a fridge,find out if they hire them as it doesn't state anywhere they do.(but we did see one)
Maids were very good,didn't get a welcome meeting from rep,so get downstairs early to see them when they are there.
Pool was small but very nice,no problem with sun beds.Last day we had the pool and any sunbed we wanted.
There is no snack bar 9.00am-12.00am as stated,so bring in your own food.
Burger king to the left,pizza place across road.
There is no kids club as guests at hotel where apparently informed.
Room was small but ok,beds were comfy.
There is a tv but only sky news,bbc1,bbc2 and cnn,the rest was in other languages.
10 days was enough.
