“Well deserving of its 4-star rating. Great staff.”

Beach front location at the end of the longest promenade ever - great for the able-bodied and families who do not want to be in the busy town centre about 20 mins walk away. Good places to eat nearby (definitely try Pizzeria Venecia!) - better than town centre in my opinion. Our 6th floor apartment was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable and recently refurbished with a well equipped kitchenette. Nothing shoddy, grotty or tatty. Breakfast buffet really good - great variety, fresh, well presented. Clientele mostly German middle-class families and oldies.

The staff are open, friendly, happy, doing their jobs efficiently and keen to please. Only spoke German to them though so cannot comment on their English. Even the usually cheesy hotel entertainment was actually very good thanks to the unrelenting enthusiasm of the entertainments manager, Santino, who catered to kids and parents alike!

Indoor and outdoor pools very nice. Everything of a very high standard. For a hotel in the mass tourism industry this is really about as good as it can be. The only negatives are things beyond the control of the staff such as the sound insulation in the rooms (not great), the size of the restaurant and buffet area (too small) and the behaviour of some of the guests (loud and smoking in a non-smoking hotel). None of those things would stop me going again however as the hotel's advantages greatly outweigh these minor irritations. We had a great 10 day holiday with B&B option out of season (October) when the hotel appeared to be about half full. Must be very crowded indeed in Summer though.

“Nice Hotel and beach, would stay again.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks. The transfer time from Palma to the hotel was approx 1hr and 20 mins on the coach. We booked 2 apartments for 4 people (2 in each apart), however when we checked in, the hotel only had 1 apartment available as the hotel had overbooked. We would be able to have access to the second apartment on day 3. This put a bit of a downer on the start of the hol as I like my own space with my partner, but we managed ok for the days we were in the 1 apartment. We had a meeting with the Manager and he apologised and offered a recompense for the error they had made which we found reasonable. The hotel was nice and the beach was at the back door of the hotel, literally a balls throw away. It is a lovely beach. If you go out of the hotel from the front door and turn right and carry on walking down, about 10-15 min walk, you will come to the shops, and a bit further down, not far though, cross the road to the left and you will see a Go karting area and then down from that is where all the shops, bars and restaurants and cafes are. Its like a strip within a long street. It was very nice, although if your not used to walking, wear comfortable shoes. You can also walk on the beach front, which is really nice. We tended to walk in at night for drinks and dinner and taxi it back for around 5 euros. The majority of the guests in the hotel were, german, dutch, french and spanish. We were english, and this did not bother us. The pool area was nice, but dont be deceived by the size of the pool in the pics, its not as big as it looks. It was a nice pool, but certainly not one to swim full lengths in up and down. Overall it was a good holiday and for the most part relaxing. If you are into golf, there is 4 courses dotted around, easily reachable by taxi. If you come out of the hotel from the front and turn right, there is a supermarket and behind this a mini golf and a beer garden also. You have to pay for the use of the sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach, however people tend to leave their own umbrellas in the hotel grounds after their hol, which you can use free and bring them back when you have finished. They are just outside the door from the bar area on the left hand side. We booked B & B, but I am a veggie, so all they had for me, was eggs, eggs and more eggs, I am funny about fruit on hol, so tended not to eat this, nor the milk. If you are a fussy eater, I found it best to stock up from the supermarket and make my own breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a high floor and a sea view.

“Quiet Location”

Was looking for a good hotel in Cala Millor and chose this one over the various other Hipotels in the area.Would have prefered the Palace but it only had rooms for three so with to teenagers would need two rooms hence too expensive.Very few English reports on the hotel so we new it would be mainly Germans. The hotel is one of the last in Cala Millor where the beach ends and changes to cliffs. We had a sixth floor room with lovely views of the pool and sea,got the sun from 9 till 5.Room clean but a little dated.Pool OK sunbeds can not be taken till 8.30 some days they were taken quickly other times there were free ones all day.Lots of people would sit by the pool but go to the sea to swim as it is so close.Hotel entertainment is really just a kids disco, the animation team do a small show after that but it is poor and as this is a smaller hotel there was very few people watching it.They charge 19 euros for evening meal but if you book a minimum of four nights you get it for 13.Food was really good with plenty of choice .Staff were all very friendly and spoke good English .About five to ten miniutes to cala miller centre but there is shops and bars all the way there and a Lidl and another large supermarket about ten minuites in land from the hotel. It is about ten minutes to Sa Coma the opposite way.We booked direct with the hotel

“Excellent hotel- Fab location”

Booked this hotel as a cheap getaway and was not expecting much. We booked the half board option and was a bit concerned about the slightly negative comments regarding the food choices.
The tone of the hotel was set on our first night when we arrived at 10 pm and we had just assumed that we would grab something to eat at a burger joint. We booked in and were shown to our room to find that the hotel had left a selection of sandwiches, salad, fruit and water for us, all of which was excellent.
We had a one bedroom apartment which was comfortable for the four of us and absolutely spotlessly clean.
Breakfast in the mornings is a buffet with a huge choice of cereals, fruit and hot and cold foods. The cook would also make pancakes, omelettes, bacon and fried eggs to order for you. The hotel's clientele are almost exclusively German and caters to their tastes, so if you need British Bangers and Heinz beans you will be disappointed but as I have said before there is a huge choice.
Dinner was also a buffet and was excellent with a huge variety of dishes and again staff cooked a variety of meats to order every evening.
The staff although obviously more fluent in German, spoke good english and could not have been more helpfull.
The hotel has an outdoor pool which was too cold to swim in April and an indoor pool which was small but immaculate. There was also a small gym
The apartment itself was comfortable but not what I would call luxurious, it again was spotlessly clean and serviced 6 times per week.
A great holiday and I would thouroughly recommend this hotel as long as you do not require to be amongst fellow Brits

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

Yes there were many more Germans than English but the hotel catered well for us all.

We had a one bedroomed apartment with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. The room was a decent size and well laid out with everything you needed including a flat screen TV with a couple of English channels. It was clean and had a nice bathroom with a Bath and good Shower. The bedroom had 2 comfortable beds pushed together and there were 2 sofa beds in the lounge area. They weren't your typical sofa beds though, they were full sized comfortable mattresses that served you well as a sofa but were beds first and foremost!

It was very hot when we were there so the aircon was welcome; it even had a low setting so that you could keep it on at night without it keeping you awake.

We didn't use the cooking facilities but the galley style kitchen had all that you needed - the full sized fridge was great for all the cold drinks..... and San Miguel!

Buffet breakfast was excellent! Very friendly staff show you to a table and then you go and get what you want. The buffet had all the cold meats and cheese you would expect, there were cereals, fruit juices, pastries and bread of all kinds. There was also a hot selection of scrambled eggs, various sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes etc AND a breakfast chef cooking bacon, fried eggs, omelettes and pancakes on request – you just lined up and in no time you were watching her cook your food fresh. There’s nothing like starting the day with Eggs, bacon, sausages and fresh orange juice washed down with nice coffee and croissants. My little one was most impressed with the pancakes and Nutella chocolate spread.

The pool was a little smaller than we first expected but it was clean and plenty big enough, never being too busy. Around the pool are sun-beds, and plenty of umbrellas - and there was no problem getting one, despite what we say about the Germans and their towels!! Most beds had cushions, which were taken in at night and relaid in the morning. In the pool area there were also a couple of showers for when you got back from the beach!

Which brings me onto the beach – and what a beach. A small door at the back of the pool area takes you out to within yards of the beach, no roads to cross and so close, it was literally on your doorstep. Clear, warm, flat and calm but move a few yards along and there’s some ‘surf’, OK it’s nothing that would thrill a Newquay surfer but was loved by my 8 year old in his dinghy! The water is shallow and safe with no sudden drop to the deep. My elder son and I swam out a few hundred yards and snorkelled in about 6-8 feet of water, watching the small fish swim around below – superb!

The Hotel supplied you need and there’s maid service 6 days of the week. All towels are provided including beach and pool towels (they charge 15 Euro deposit for these but they change them whenever you like and you get the 15 euros back when you return the towels at the end of your stay) – that was a really good touch.

Entertainment at the hotel is ‘entertaining’, partly for the wrong reasons i.e. it was a bit holiday camp in the nicest way. We went into Cala Bona each evening to eat and there was street entertainment there at the harbour, which you could enjoy whilst eating in one of the many restaurants. Cala Bona is much more English focused and whilst I wouldn’t have wanted to stay there it was good to make the 10 minute trip to enjoy the good food and typical Spanish holiday type shops.

There was daytime entertainment for kids, although we didn’t see any of it and there’s table tennis and pool table, which you could always get onto when you wanted to. There’s also a nice, cool reception area and lounge bar to get out of the heat.

Overall I would highly recommend the Dunas. We would have liked a few more English for the kids to play with but they/we had a great time so it didn’t matter too much.
