“A relaxing break”

As a family of 4 we booked a 2-bed apartment for our 1-week self-catering stay. On arrival, reception was modern and well-staffed, although staff took a little longer than I would have liked to check us in to our room. As we found out, we were not staying on the main block, but in a smaller accommodation block called block 6, which was about 300-400 yards from the main reception, but we were shown to it to by one of the reception staff so had no problems in finding it. The apartment was modern, very spacious, well-equipped and had excellent air conditioning, although the sea view that we had requested upon booking was not accommodated as the apartment was on the ground floor and inland from the main Marins Playa block. We used the pool complex at the main Marins Playa block every day and our boys were rarely out of one or other of the 3 pools, which were of a decent size and well cleaned and maintained. Sun loungers around the pool were plentiful and we never had a problem in finding 4 for us to use for the day, although some more portable sun umbrellas to provide some shade at the very hottest part of the day would have been welcome. The poolside restaurant provided decent meals and drinks at very reasonable prices in line with those charged by restaurants and bars outside the complex. Our room was cleaned & swept with our bins emptied on 5 of our 7 days by very friendly staff; a glass broken on day 1 was replaced immediately by the cleaning staff. My only comment about the level of cleaning was that 5 days out of 7 seemed a bit excessive and every other day would have been fine with us. The Marins Playa is well situated within Cala Millor for most of the bars & restaurants and the superb main beach is around a 10-minute walk away. The bars & restaurants in Cala Bona, which in our opinion are of a better quality than those in Cala Millor, are also around a 10 minute walk away.

“You have to speak German”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

Spent two weeks here in August. It was perfectly clean, I think we have never been in a hotel that was so well looked after from early in the morning until late night. As the weather was awfully hot I had to run down to the pool area at 6.55 every morning to get a sunbed in the shadow area because all the German guests (about 98 %) were occupying everything even if they didn't use their beds until lunchtime. The hotel is perfect for German families used to kids jumping in the pool, using lots of space for water toys and playing around. If you want to have a nice swim you have to be there between 8-10 in the morning or 7-8 in the evening.

Every activity is based on the fact that you speak German and the every evening entertainment too.

The apartment was OK and we loved the airconditioning considering the very hot weeks we were there. The beds are comfortable if you like sleeping on the floor because they were about as soft as that. Towels were changed daily and the bedlinen was comfortable. The TV had lots of German channels, the only English ones were BBC and CNN News and as the Germans are dubbing all movies and series we could not enjoy them.

The supermarket had reasonable prices and quite a lot to choose among but we would have liked a bit more fresh meat as we mostly cook ourselves.

However, this is great value for German families with children, but as we are not that we will chose another hotel in Cala Millor next time and absolutely closer to the nice beach. The closes beach was stony and not so nice.

“Perfect for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

This was our first time at an apartment hotel with our 2 year old at a totally tourist town. We wanted a safe and family-friendly place with a lot of sun, so Mallorca it was.
I can recommend Marins Playa hotel for families. The pool area was big and suitable for even younger children and on top of that it had two playgrounds (one had a rubber flooring so toddlers are happy there). In summer months there is also kids' club for children over 4. They had a minidisco every evening for children of all ages. Our daughter was happy!
The hotel was extremely clean. Our room had a separate bedroom and a balcony. The hotel has 4 or 5 separate buildings and ours was across the street. However, there is no traffic on the street.
The hotel has mainly German guests. I don't mind as I know that they behave well and are demanding for service. The entertainment + kids' stuff were both in English and German.
Location is good. 5 min walking from the center/beach. There is a grocery shop on the premises.
Only complaint is the food. We had half board so we ate breakfast + dinner there. There was nothing original or Spanish with the dinner. It was "Germanized". I understand that they feed families with picky children, so it is a canteen rather than a restaurant. The buffet had several options every night and our daughter always got her pasta. Fortunately they started to also barbacue service which was better food but you had to quee.
All in all, thumbs up, good family place!

“Terrible complex”

This was one of the worst holidays ever.Besides the rain during allmost 2 weeks, the 3-bedroom app. was located too far away (with a 4-year-old)from the main building and the area was not so good. Located in between app. of locals, so lots of noise and barking doggs, and the smell of garlicfood during the weekends fills the hall. Carefull, 'cause you might break your foot or neck over the sidewalk at night! We didn't have a laundryline,so asked for it at the reception and was told I had to throw it over the balcony, where the birds had been ... well, you know what!Kept asking and got a line after 2 days!Reception greets you in German and don't understand English very well.In the whole Cala Millor area, they speak German, even before you have said a word.I have seen a few Dutch people, spoke 2 English persons and the place is overloaded by Germans. Not my piece of cake! They are not bothering you, but no fun to be with. The food is ok, but not for every day. After the roomservice had left our 1st floor terracedoor open,I complained at the reception. They were very rude and after my complaint, the roomservice was less good as it was before, allthough she got her tips .... The entertainment-team is great, friendly and very enthousiastic, but it's audience is not .... The kids-club is only in German, the mini-disco is in both German and Dutch, and if there are English children, they speak English, but when we were there, there weren't any.A few of the shows of the entertainment-team are really very funny.German Singer Harry who appears every Tuesdaynight would not get through the pop-idol-auditions. The pool looks clean, but small. And lots of children running around and swimming without swimmingnappies, not very hygienic. The bar staff is friendly, but the bar closes at 12. Great cocktails.
Near the harbour of Cala Bona, there's a few English restaurants and at the other end of Cala Millor, the area is a little more English. Cheers-pub is great, live footballgames on sundays and roast!Internet is near the reception, costs 1 Euo every 10 minutes and than you get internet explorer 6, so very slowwwww. Would I recommand this complex? No!

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

We ended up at the Marins Playa, because of price and good reviews on TA.
Our agent has apparently gone bankrupt, because when we showed up with our pre-paid voucher to the hotel to inform that there was no reservation. But the staff didnt panic, we were provided with key cards to room, and then we could talk to the boss later. Fine service.

We ended up giving a bit more than the agent, and i over visa system get my money back.

The room was nice and roomy for 2 adults and two children. There were television with different German Spanish and English channels. Kitchen was very basic, but we used the stuff that was there, afterall we only eat breakfast at home.

The view from the balcony was, unfortunately, through two palm trees and onto a building opposite.

The area was beautiful maintenance, and by the pool area was, here in September ,lots of space and plenty of vacant sunbeds.

There is a supermarket in the area, and the prices here are very reasonable.

There are 300 m walk to the promenade.
If you go to the right, there are bars and a few hundred meters ahead you enter cala mallor, with tourist shops/bars. Prices in the region are very reasonable.
If you go left, you will after 500 meters end in Cala Bona, who seems a little more exclusive. But this is just my private opinion.

Yes I would love to return to the Marins Playa again, if í can have a room vith a wiew, like the Marins Playa 2, at the top overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The hotel is located between the two tourist towns, and instead of letting that bee something bad, we used it to our advantage, that this a very quiet hotel.

Warning to Brits.

I have heard some Brits complaints. so therefore:
There may be German, Scandinavian and Dutch at the hotel. There are even Spanish guests..and yes, also the staff can be local, with an accent.
You can risk that there are restaurants that don´t serve baked beans, and bars which measure's beer in a half liter, instead of pints.
If you eat breakfast at the hotel, you can expect that the bacon is thin and crispy.
