“Hotel just as good as last year But?”

My wife and I returned to the sumba for fourteen nights because we enjoyed seven nights last year The hotel was just as clean cheerful and friendly as last year,But we think that ten night's would have been enough! we found the food to repeat it's self to often over the fourteen day's more so for the evening meal,Now in my last review I said that we were always able to knock a plateful up but by the nineth day we were starting to struggle with the food, nothing to do the way it was cooked just loads of pork&fish maybe could have done with some lamb, beef or chicken curries or even a b.b.q weather was good enough to have a one, mind the chef on the show cooking was spot on even his stand in on his day's off was good, sunbed's are still without a mattress and they can get a bit hard on the back after a while without one.The entertainment was ok but not many outside act's to be seen although the hotel animation show's in the main were 7out of10 they tryed really hard. The bar staff were ok odd tip here and there didn't go a miss with them although we did leave tip's with all the staff right down to the house keeping they do an excellent job in keeping this hotel clean &tidy where the hotel is located is quiet close to the beach which is not run by the sumba and the walk down into calla bona is good no hassle off anyone apart from cyclist's (don't know who planed the cycle track into the middle of the pavement and prom) anyway it's still a nice walk,Would we return yes but in maybe 3 to 5 year's time and only for ten night's max.P.S this holiday would have been better if the company we used hadn't ripped us off but if you use them book via the phone not on line don't want to drop myself in it but the company rhyme's with a bun & old fashioned name for a captain of a ship I'll never book with that lot again.

Room Tip: the best room's in my opinon are on the poolside of the hotel all room's air cond

“Overall great stay”

We were initially booked at Hotel America in Cala Mallorca, but got a room on the 1st floor with a view to a concrete wall, which was unacceptable. Upon requesting a different room on a top floor they said it will not be possible as they are fully booked well in advance and we were offered to be relocated in Cala Millor resort at sister Hotel Sumba. I will not regret accepting the offer. When we got there, Michael - one of the management staff welcomed us and offered a great room on the 4th floor-sea view. The hotel has a great location and is practically on the beach (the promenade stands between the hotel and the beach). The food is excellent and varied, there is a great selection of wines, basically does what is said on the tin:). The staff is professional with one or two exceptions among the restaurant staff, but not to the point of complaint. The hotel is mainly accommodating German tourists.

“Exactly as described!”

We stayed here in August and found it most agreeable.
Tip; I took the advice from here and insisted on a pool side view. Good move as dogs are on the other side.
Food was as expected on all inclusive, standard - good. Puddings are divine and plentiful. Down side is that all drinks are via waiter service so unless you pester you usually only get 1 each.
Rooms are fantastic. Very modern, spacious and clean. We are a family of 5 so got 2 rooms with a lockable adjoining door.
Location is what will draw me back to this hotel. 5 min walk to town and beach access via gate behind the pool.
Tip: When we went on the beach and used pool bar for drinks and ice lollies!
There was a good mix of nationalities staying at the hotel and all guests were polite and considerate. We didn't have to wake up mega early to get a sunbed by the pool either. You can generally find some before 10:30 and bearing in mind that we are a family of 5 thats not bad going!!!
Staff are generally good although avoid the reception if you can help it. I found them quite brusk but I suppose during high season the guys have a hard job.
My final tip: ask the grill chef nicely and he will whip you up a batch of fresh pancakes for breakfast while you wait! MMmmmmmmm

“Nice hotel in nice resort, BUT ........................... beware of overbookings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We booked 2 weeks AI in Borneo/Sumba with Ola Holidays in May to arrive 31st July, with family due to arrive a few days later to stay with us in the same hotel. One week before we were due to arrive we had a call from Ola Holidays to advise the hotel had contacted them to say they were overbooked and we were being reallocated in Cala Vinas but my family's booking was fine. We obviously objected strongly to this and after many phone calls and emails back and forth between Ola, the Hotel and the booking agent in Majorca, finally we were advised our booking was fine. We arrived at 1430 on 31st July and checked in with no problems.
However, when my brother and his family arrived at 2300 a few days later, despite being told their booking was fine - they were overbooked and put to another hotel along the road for the night and not able to check into their rooms until after midday the following day. Whilst we were there we saw this happen on a daily basis to at least 5 families sometimes even more, every day, especially if they were arriving later in the day or evening. We spoke to several people who had arrived before us and had either had the same thing done or witnessed the same thing happening to other people. The hotel staff were very matter of fact about this happening and they seemed to so used to it that they were quite robotic in their apologies and they took a lot of flack from some extremely upset guests.

The Rooms
We had two lovely adjoining twin rooms which were spacious and both had good sized balconies on the Third floor. The view wasn't fabulous, facing the neighbouring flats, shops and restaurants but we had no problem with noise at all and you could see the sea from all the balconies on our side. There was plenty of hanging space, a fridge in the room and a lovely bathroom with two shower heads at different angles.
The rooms were very clean and the lovely maid came in every day to change towels and make up the beds.

The Food
The selection of food was very much catered for the majority nationality which was German and there were some strange combinations of foods together, but, overall the food was very nice and there was always a good choice of hot and cold foods served buffet style at Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. You could eat as much as you liked and the gateaux cakes were especially delicous!! Drinks at lunch and dinner were waiter service which we found to be a hit or a miss dependant on how busy the restaurant was and which waiter was allocated your table. Sometimes very efficient and your drinks order was taken instantly, other times we were almost halfway through our meal before we tracked a waiter down. We generally had carafe's of white, red and rose wine or a glass of cold beer which were served in glasses and all very nice. The kids had soft drinks or a San Fransisco, (hotels non alcoholic cocktails). We had the same experiance we had with clearing the tables, sometimes plates were taken away almost as soon as you had put your knife and fork down, but other times we had to clear the plates on to neighbouring tables to make space for the next course. Most of the dining room staff were nice, but there were a few who couldnt be bothered and made no effort to smile!!

The Pool and Beach
Nice pool with plenty of sunbeds, usual early start with towels on the sunbeds (German influence I think!!) Nice indoor pool with a jacuzzi, sauna and gym. The beach was literally on the doorstep a 2 minute walk accross a grassy area with a lovely promenade which stretched from Cala Millor right down to Cala Bona. Beach was very nice, again plenty of sunbeds at a reasonable 12EUROS for two beds and a parasol. Lovely shelved beach which was shallow for quite a distance and kids could safely paddle about on float on their lilo's on the waves.
BEWARE of the man selling watermelon, he tried to charg us 9EUROS for one slice!!!

Entertainment
Usual cheesy entertainment team who tried hard, but, the lack of atmosphere at nights didnt help to add to the evenings. Apart form the few Brits who were there, no one really joined in or even clapped much during the evening.

Resort
Very nice resort with lots to do. Fantasy Park just along the road from the hotel had, trampolines, bouncy castles and go karts which were great fun. You could hire little electric scooters and chuckle vision 4 to 8 seater 4 wheeled bikes for 14 to 16EUROS for a few hours. The SEGWAY's right next to the hotel were fantastic. I think we were about 36EUROS for a one hour SEGAY tour, which took you right along to Sa Coma and back along the coast. Great Fun!!!

Overall
We had a great holiday with 5 adults and 3 kids and the weather was fabulous. Unfortunatley the it was not as good as previous resorts we've been to as we found it to be so German orientated. Most of the Germans were reserved and some exceptionally rude and unfriendly which made the whole atmosphere a little disappointing.
