We were a bit wary having read some of the reviews before our stay but I guess the complaints were made by the same people who shared the drinks 4 straws to a bottle.
The hotel was spotless, the room large and comfortable and the staff very hard working. Our only complaint was that every room should have tea making facilities and a fridge, not just the superior rooms.
Breakfast was basic, with bacon or mini sausages on alternate days accompanied by beans, eggs and mushrooms. There was also a selection of cereals and fresh fruits or ham and cheese or even yogurt for the health conscious.
There was entertainment several nights a week but most people seemed to spend their nights at one of the many bars and restaurants at the marina.
I believe we witnessed Portuguese Elvis’s last performance at the hotel before the manager unplugged him – Elvis has left the building. He was so bad he had to be seen.
There is nothing to keep older children entertained at the hotel so I would not recommend a stay at the Pinhal do Sol for them.
The hotel provided free transport to and from Quarteira, Vilamoura, and the marina 4 times daily between 10.00 am and 6.00pm using 2 minibuses and it was only a short wait if the bus was full.
Praia de Almargem is the closest beach at less than 30 min walk away but for some reason the bus does not go there.
I would recommend a hired car to see the wider area.
