We arrived at Il Sarale after a few days in Rome and found it to be the quiet, charming respite we were hoping for. Our rooms were spacious, sunny and clean. Since the house sits atop a ridge, the views from the rooms look out across a beautiful and layered Umbrian countryside.

But as nice as the physical setting was, the best part of our stay was the warm hospitality and delicious food offered up by owners Sara and Alessandro. The five course dinner prepared by Sara was the best we had during our two week visit to Italy, with fresh, local organic food, presented in a leisurely, family style.

In the morning, after waking to the sound of song birds and farm animals, we lingered over coffee on the sunny patio. Then we were on our way, sorry we had not scheduled a few more nights at Il Sarale. We will definitely be back!

we went in Sarale for one day, but we go out the day after. The house doesn't have any services. After we went in Hotel Garden and we had all the services requested. Umbria is wonderful but keep away from il Sarale.

This is a truly stunning location far removed from urban life, Sarah and Alessandro run this lovely small orgainc farm as well as having 2 small children. Rooms are rustic but everything you need. A huge bonus is no mosquitos in this area.
There is no pool but there is use of the pool at the adjoining property and normally we were there alone, bliss! We wanted to relax and do nothing apart from soak up the atmosphere and the cuisine. It was very hot, over 40 degrees but there was normally a light breeze and trees for shade.
Sarah cooks the evening meal which is 4 courses each night and is mostly from the farm. All day we wondered what delights awaited us. We ate outside with the other guests enjoying the friendly conversations with other nationalities. The wine flowed and usually the owners joined us in a liquer before bed.
Our lasting memory is the baby pigs playing like young children in the cool of the early mornings.
Sarah does pasta making classes and this was most enjoyable, especially eating it for lunch afterwards.
If you want to explore the area it is well placed for many cities.
There are only five rooms and a sitting room for guests. In winter a fire could be lit and there is a sink and fridge available for storing food for lunch. So a year around destination.
If you want to experience real italian living this is the place.

We stayed for four nights in July. Hospitality was wonderful in this small homely family-run agriturismo situated at the top of a hill in the Umbrian countryside. Food was excellent, the only problem was the quantity (but we managed to walk it off in the day)! Now that we have returned back to the UK we look back on this as our favourite part of the trip.

In a great location for lots of great towns in Tuscany, Umbria and Le Marche.

Excellent value. We will return.
