“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2010

a really fantastic hotel.
the fact that it once was a monastery only enhances the stay in my opinion.
room 121 was a charming room with a doorbell on the side of the door to the room, stairs up from the entrance hall to the bedroom and bathroom which were both wonderfully spacious. utterly charming!
the corridors and hallways were also full of huge old furniture...i felt that i was in a posh house and not a hotel.
the room overlooked the side alley so although not much of a view it was quiet.
hotel staff were helpful and charming.
the restaurant "le logge" was a real treat - fantastic food, fantastic service and all at a very reasonable price.
the hotel is really well located too.

“Very acceptable option in Citta di Castello”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2010

I spent a week at this hotel on a recent business trip. This hotel was chosen for us by a colleague who has spent a lot of time at many hotels in the area, so I was pretty certain before coming that this was the best option in the area.

I spent five days in Room 135 and two days in Room 149 (our 5 night trip turned into seven with the ash cloud fiasco). Room 135 is a very large room with a decent sized bathroom. Room 149 is much smaller, but it has a much larger bathroom (with a stone arch over the top). As this is an older, boutique style hotel, every room is a little different. Both had a "king sized" (read: two singles sheeted together) bed, desk, refrigerator, wardrobe & TV (flat panel in 135 and standard tube TV in 149). Both of these rooms are not on the main street so are very quiet. Plus I'm sure that the hotel is solid since we survived an earthquake while there! :) If you do not like a firm bed, this place may not be your best bet...the beds are super firm. I was worried about the firmness but I slept great. The rooms are nothing special, but they are comfortable enough. There is only wired Internet access in the rooms, but they will lend you a cable. The power wasters among us will also have to remember that the power in the room does not work when you are not in it, so things will not charge while you are out (I learned this the hard way when my camera did not work one morning).

Wifi is easy to get in the lobbies...just ask the front desk for a key code (they will take your passport number and then give you a code). I liked to sit in the main lobby/bar after work to catch up on emails.

Everyone at the front desk & in the breakfast room was very courteous & professional. Everyone spoke English & Italian so I had no troubles communicating. Francesco at breakfast knew my drink order after day two and he immediately brought my hot chocolate pot after I sat down. That's service! Breakfast is standard for the area...an assortment of breads, pastries, cereals, ham, cheese, etc.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to both leisure & business travelers. It's a good base to visiting companies in the area as well as a base for visiting various Umbrian & Tuscan towns (about 20-25 minutes from Sansepolcro & Anghiari).

“Helpful, Friendly Staff and Comfortable Accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2006

We enjoyed a one week stay at the Hotel Tiferno while on a group tour. The staff made us feel welcome, recommended good restaurants, spoke good English, and always smiled.

There is no restaurant on premises although a continental breakfast is served. Excellent restaurants were only steps away.

Our double room faced an alley. It lacked a view, but the room was quiet. Others in rooms located on the piazza remarked that there was street noise to contend with. Our window provided adequate light and ventilation, when we were not using the air conditioning. The room had a mini-bar, a safe, and a first-class bathroom. For a long stay, it did lack a dresser, but other furniture offered stacking space for clothing. Wake-up calls were on time and courteous. Televison was basic with only one English channel (BBC).

We would be happy to return to Hotel Tiferno.
