Lovely place, wonderful and most helpful hosts - thank you, Patrizia, thank you, Roberta! Full of Tuscan character and rustic charm, the Agriturismo features a selection of rooms, each having its own distinct feel. Ours was very private, with a large, mysterious and dusky bedroom, which had a tall open-beamed ceiling and a beautiful antique bed, complete with carved wooden angels at corners and a canopy! We love the look and feel of old things, the ambience they create. If you prefer the aluminum-and-plastic sterility of a chain hotel, then, maybe, this Agriturismo is not for you, but if you like to feel connected with the land you visit, its traditions, its tastes and smells, its slower pace, its history and overall romantic and eclectic charm - then come and stay here! Two things to be prepared for, though. A previous reviewer mentioned that a 4x4 car would be preferred to conquer the short gravel section of the road to the Agriturismo. Well - we can proudly testify, that our compact rental Citroen C3 did an excellent job during the entire three weeks of our stay - yes, somewhat bumpy for the last half-a-mile, especially when you lose your breath over the gorgeous view that opens up, but if you respect the road, the ride gets easier every time as you practice! The other thing - with Italy's rather peculiar laws on gas heating, if you are staying between seasons, particularly, make sure to clarify their policy with Roberta, who will explain the details. And don't forget to indulge in the Terre di Melazzano wines you can get right on the premises! During the three weeks, we had a chance to try the entire selection of their wines, in a broad range of vintages and prices - and enjoyed them immensely! All of them are excellent and reasonably priced - from the 2001 Chianti Classico Riserva - dry, rich, complex, with a delicate hint of mirabelle plum and a noble nose of oven-dried porcini mushroom, - to the 5-liter boxed red table wine, just a good, reliable, healthy and happy, no-nonsense every night dinner buddy! And - back to the beauty of the place. As artists who came to Tuscany from over 6000 miles away to paint en plein air, we managed to find plenty of lovely views for thirteen large canvases right at the Localita Melazzano, without traveling too far! We can't wait to come back and stay here again, to continue our creative exploration of Greve's surroundings...
