We stayed at two different properties on the island of Sicily, the Torre Macauda being the first for 3 nights in late May. The pluses: room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The minuses: lack of basic amenities starting with no potable water in the room -- if you wanted drinking water (and who doesn't?) or anything to drink at all you had to purchase a "debit card" for any amount you wished from which 5 euro would be held back once it was used up or returned for refund. Drinking water was 1,50 euro a bottle. No hair dryer or steam iron in the room. Staff told me I would have to pay a refundable 20 euro deposit to "rent" the hair dryer and iron, which I did. Just about all of the rooms face the pool area and Saturday night for about 2 hours from 9 pm to 11 pm or so, three performers sang along to loud pre-recorded music, so sleep was impossible until they finished. No internet service at all anywhere on the hotel property.
