“terrible, unfriendly service”

We have just returned from our 2 week honeymoon (Sept 2011). We had 2 nights in Rome and 6 nights in Sorrento before arriving at Hotel Delfini for 4 nights. At the other 2 hotels the staff went out of their way to look after us and the service was exceptional. And then we arrived at hotel Delfini.

The staff were the most unfriendly, unhelpful, rude people we have ever come across. The only information we were given at check in was how much extra we could pay for lunch and dinner at the hotel. No info on anything about the hotel, where it was, how we get to the main parts of ischia... and certainly NO MENTION about our honeymoon.

The staff had no English, which made it extremely difficult. Even when we did feel like complaining we couldn't. In fact, we were barely spoken to after we had checked in.

The few staff there were on 2 of the 4 days were openly arguing by the pool and in the restaurant at breakfast. The "lifeguard/swimming porter" shouted across us and stormed off. Not the relaxing environment we had in mind for our stay.

We were also outraged that there was no way of getting a drink/snack by the pool or "beach". You had to get dressed and sit in restaurant and pay 18 euros per person for a very basic buffet salad lunch. The lack of customer service was just unbelievable.

The restaurant as said before, was crammed full of tables and very untidy. The breakfast was very poor- cold scrambled eggs and stale rolls. They would even clear away the food while you were still trying to eat it. We only ate lunch there one day and that was also extremely poor.

When we were not lying by the pool we spent as much time out of the hotel as possible as we did not feel welcome. It was also very noticeable that the Italian guests of the hotel were looked after very well. We saw their bags being carried up/down all the stairs on check in/check out. We barely got a goodbye when we checked out.

The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is that our room was very nice. We had a big jacuzzi bath and a fantastic shower, with a balcony overlooking the sea.

The mini bar was never re stocked though, which was a pain.

On our return I have been onto the hotel's website and not a SINGLE word on there is true. There is certainly no shuttle service. In fact, reading the website made me really really angry!!

I would not recommend that anyone stay in this hotel. The only part of our honeymoon where we didn't feel happy.

we stayed in Delfini from august 31 - september 6, 2011.
upon arrival at 17.00 hrs there was no room available. Had to wait 90 minutes. Very limited explanation given. No excuses. Only 1 person good english speaking, but he was not always available. No drink-foodservice at beach. No towels at beach/pool. Former pool bar closed and in deplorable state. One person runs restaurant. One person for (small) bar service. Breakfast buffet-table (fm 07.30 pm) disorderly, restauranttable(s) mostly untidy. Bathroom: armature and toilet-seat loose. When bath filled to rim, foam became brown (??!!...)
Room: no glasses, fridge half filled, no new supply.
Check-out: wanted bill payment evening before we left because of early departure. Was not necessary.....* Result: at 06.30 am check with many mistakes and no possiblitiy to check the check. That same responsable employee (*) started at 08.30......

General: reception/administration is open space behind counter, 10 m2, with sometimes 4 persons working (daytime). Only barkeeper, restaurant guy and roomcleaning can be recognized by their uniform. Very confusing who is resonsible for what, who has authority, where to go to with your complaints.
One restaurant room open during lunch- and breakfasttime, crammed with tables. In our room were all loose articles removed, even closetdoors (if they ever were there). Internet site must be years old (very nice) and not reflecting the actual situation. Beachpier a.o. of multiplex boards, green upholstery removed. No real beach and no shuttle service. Very misleading site. Understaffed hotel witch definitely cannot have 4 stars.

Conclusion: after arrival we felt like moving to another place but because of the short holiday (6 nights) we did not. We paid the bill (which was not correct) otherwise we would have not made ferry/plane, be we are very disappointed and feel ripped off.

“an expected dream became a nightmare”

when you get one of the following 6 rooms (#15,16,20,22,26,29) than you get a filthy, poorly equipped (in part broken) at best 3 star instead of the booked 4L star room. Those rooms are outside the main building (no access security), considering that some of them have no window, you are forced to keep your door open if you want some fresh air or a view (viewing and entering the room goes through the same door), a very inconvenient reality. The rooms are partially on the pool maintenance level which provides an intense chlorine smell. You have mould in your bathroom, stained bedclothes, a fridge that is heating, a broken tap…… and the sun beds were stored just in front of our room.
‘you got this room for a very cheap price via internet’ was the response from the management after our complaint . Eventually we and our friends got new rooms, which had a better standard, still not 4L. rooms are dirty, a broken door handle, shower malfunction………. and on the check out day a broken elevator (no help with the language) and only cold water.
The strandhotel Delfini has NO strand!!! You have wood tiling, or some sand behind a wall, instead; a non operational ‘strandbar’; no strand bath towels; no ‘strand’ or pool service.
Lipstick on cups, stained cutlery, dirty plates, and eventually a very poor breakfast buffet, are an everyday experience.
Eventually on our last evening an italien marriage party took place with a very high noise level till 0230am.
The hotel is on a very nice location, but needs a main renovation and a professional management.

“Excellent food and relax”

We spent a very relaxing week. The hotel is located in a splendid bay, right in front of a turquoise sea. The room was spacious and clean, the relax guaranteed. a special mention goes to the chef Lo Giudice, who delighted our palates beyond measure with his interpretation of traditional Sicilian specialties, and to the masseuse Stefania who was very professional and flexible. I would definitely recommend it to relax and enjoy the spa and the island itself.

The room offered was in awful conditions! There was mold on the walls and from the muggy air it seemed like no one had stayd in that room for months! This is what you get after having booked spa-package a month before and having payd 30% as advance! As we weren't happy neither with the attitude nor the solutions offered by the hotel staff, we left the hotel same evening.
For me it was very strange to hear such words from hotel personell: "well, but you have booked a standard room, haven't you?"
So, if this is the standard of this 4 star hotel - watch out!
