“Lord Byron Hotel Sept 2011”

The hotel is fantastic - clean and the staff are very helpful. The swimming pool and beauty area is also very clean and pretty. However the resort is very hilly so beware if you have any walking difficulties. The choice of food in the restaurant is quite limited and on 2 nights there is no choice - they have a theme night twice a week and one night they serve rabbit dishes and the othere is seafood and they do not offer a choice. Pepe the head waiter works hard but can be a bit brusque

Room Tip: the rooms on the 1st floor are good. there were some complaints about the rooms on the lower ground...

“I loved it!”

This was my first holiday as a single traveller and I wasn't disappointed. Also my first holiday in Italy.
This hotel is small and friendly and nothing too much trouble for the staff; Particularly Pedro, Nicoletta and Francesco who went that extra mile to make my holiday an enjoyable one.
The food was plentiful, varied and very well cooked. Having the opportunity to swap dinner for lunch was a nice idea.
My room was spacious, light and airy, even though it was below ground level, and I still had french doors opening onto a patio with table and chairs. Not all the rooms have a fridge - you have to upgrade - a minor niggle. If you like an early morning cuppa, take a travel kettle.
The hotel is well situated for the town and walking distance to the nearest beach.
It isn't the height of luxury, but is extremely comfortable. It has a spa offering a thermal pool and steam room at no extra cost, and the availability of many treatments. My massage was wonderful! The pool is a good size and was never overcrowded, and there was never a problem getting a sunbed.
The bar prices were reasonable and measures very generous. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Lord Byron and hope to return in the future.

“Honeymoon at Hotel Lord Byron”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

Overall, this is a lovely almost colonial-style hotel set very close to the centre of Forio. Despite our Travel Agent (Thomas Cook) guaranteeing that the hotel would know that this was our honeymoon and that we would "receive extra special treatment", we were disappointed to discover on arrival that in fact the hotel had no idea of our recent nuptials. However, this was not the hotel's fault. The reception area at Hotel Lord Byron is beautiful and sumptuous but the room we were given, alas, was rather poor - the shower leaked profusely (albeit there was plenty of hot water) and was pretty small - we kept getting stuck to the shower curtain!! The little courtyard outside our room had a very tatty plastic table with the top peeling off. Both these problems (i.e the leaky shower head and peeling table) could have been sorted out for less than £20by a trip to the Italian equivalent of B&Q and would have definitely made a difference to the overall appeal of the room. Also, our honeymoon was rather spoiled by the rather irritating dog who lived in the next door apartment. The dog (called Sheila) barked constantly from 7am to 9pm!! and despite our complaints to the hotel (and their assurance that the owners had been spoken to, and the dog moved to another location) this proved not to be the case, and we felt rather let down by this.

However, on a brighter note, the bar staff - Francesco and Nicoletta - were delightful and very accommodating, providing poolside waiter service if required. The poolside area was lovely and the sunbeds plentiful and comfortable. We didn't use the thermal indoor pool facilities although they were there at our disposal. The rooms were cleaned daily and the bed was comfortable. We did not, however, have any air conditioning in our room.

Forio is a wonderful little town, full of excellent restaurants and fabulous boutiques. We dined regularly at Ristorante Epomeo, owned by the marvelous Tomaso who was exceptionally helpful and the food there was fantastic. He also speaks great English, which helped a lot.

All in all, though, we would return to Hotel Lord Byron - we'd just book a different room!!

“WONDERFUL STAFF !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

I went on my first ever 'singles' holiday with Solitaire Holidays and overall was not dissappointed. Even though we had terrible delays at Manchester with Thompson Airline ( 11 hours !!- will give them a miss next trip!) and only just managed to catch the last ferry of the day to the island of Ischea ( thanks to the James Bond of all Taxi drivers !!) we arrived at midnight and were shown to out rooms extremely ready for a good nights' sleep. WHATEVER YOU DO - DO NOT ACCEPT TO BE PUT INTO ROOM 50 !!- it is RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE RESTAURANT which at 6am begins to get ready for breakfast with the banging and clattering that you would expect from a restaurant but you dont want it right next door. At 7am the 'Good Mornings- you had a good night?' begins...i complained in no uncertain terms and got moved...but it cost me 10euros a night more..... I would not have minded this if i had known at booking that a nice room would cost more, but was told that Solitaire had access to only the 'lesser' rooms!! The ones wth dark balconies that dont get any direct sun... or around the back of the hotel.
Apart from this dissappointment and extra surprise cost - the week was beautiful...hotel spotless and the staff really do go OUT OF THEIR WAY to help you in any way possible- day or night ! Food ample and very italian - by the end of the week we were gagging for steak and chips, not much real meat offered unless you call rabbit - meat. Location was great and i was able to walk everywhere easily - which i loved, but buses were easy if you want that instead. I enjoyed the week - but felt that a week was enough to have done everything there was to do. Solitaire holidays are not cheap, but for the first time it was worth it, next time i will be braver and go it alone and save some money! Thanks to all who were there with me and hope you feel my review was fair.

Room Tip: get room 206 overlooking the pool - but pay extra!

Very clean and friendly hotel withlovely staff. Thermal bath and steam room were a real bonus.Behind the bar wasv a very enthusiastic Francesco. My room had no view but it was quiet and very comfortable. Bus stop just opposite and short walk to shops and all important cash machine. Wel done Francesco in reception and the team.
