We have just spent 14 wonderful days at the Torre Sant'Angelo having found and booked it on the internet. We wanted a quiet relaxing location without to much action as my wife is recovering from a broken hip and we got it here.
This is a family run hotel and I can't thank Umberto and his family and staff for all their help, friendliness and assistance. Apart from Umberto there's not much English spoken here but we liked that and everyone got by.
The location is quite remote and if you use public transport from the ferry ports you will be faced with a long walk down a steep and winding hill. Taxis are available at both ports, Ischia Porto at a cost of 45 - 55 euro or the closer Forio 15 - 25 euro be aware boats are less frequent to Forio and more affected (delayed/cancelled) by the weather.
Once resident at the hotel however it is usually easy to get a lift up the hill from staff to where the excellent buses run.
If you take your car to Ischia (or rent one) there is limited free parking at the hotel requiring you to leave your keys at reception to prevent any obstruction of other guests / deliveries.
First impressions of this hotel from the road are that it is somewhat run down and dirty but go through the gates and you find tiled floors and typical Italian painted walls that are shiney and clean. The reception area is small but accesible and includes a tour desk and free internet access if you don't have your own wifi device (note my wifi only worked in the reception/lounge and restuarant areas and not in our room or on the restaurant terrace). There is a small TV louge divided from the large restaurant by a well stoked and well kept bar.
The restaurant is immaculate and has a terrace with views to die for and you will be offered the 15 euro per head half board option on arrival. Our Advice is take it, the food is superb (local dishes cooked with fresh local produce) as is the service and having tried some local restaurants during our trip we could not find better and certainly found worse for much more money. Breakfast is buffet style and almost never ending.
Our room was immaculately clean with a great wetroom and was cleaned everyday including fresh linen. We had a large private terrace with a shaded pation and open sunbathing area and almost as good a view as the main terrace.
Our room was adequately furnished but if we had any critisism of the hotel it would be the beds. Although we slept well for a few nights, by day 8 the matresses were showing their true shape and it's not the best.
The three pools, cold, spa and thermal are great and located on a sunny terrace surrounded by foliage with plenty of shade for sun shy brits.
Add to all this a few surprises from Umberto (fireworks display, dolphins in the bay) and his lovely 13 month old daughter Julia and we woulod recommend the Torre Sant'Angelo to anyone.
