“Seaview and fun place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Besides the 114 steps up to the hotel it was a fantasy place to come to
Top renovated rooms with very nice bathroom. A small balcony where one could observe the life in the small park and enjoy a fantactic view of the coastline. If you want to how the Italien people live their normal lives, then this is the town to visit. And nice breakfast in the morning and super service from the owners makes this hotel worth to visit.

“Excellent location, great seafacing views and tasty breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 May 2011

I wasn't expecting much from Palazzo Vinigus before we arrived there, and reached quite late due to delayed bus service from Salerno. When we did arrive, we were put straight to our room (much needed) and the guy at the reception mentioned were we could get a nice pizza at that time. The room had a small balcony facing the sea and you could listen to the waves all night. It was very pretty and relaxing. Once you close the doors to the balcony - you could sleep in silence. Next morning we were woken up by the smell of freshly baked crossaints. The quality of bread, cakes and crossaints was very good. The room had everything you get in a decent price and very clean and seemed like an excellent end to our trip across Italy. I am glad I didnt book an overpriced, not such a good location for views in amalfi or positano. Its a shame the jacuzzi couldnt be fiilled with hot water - it would have made the evenings even better. The owners should improve their website with better images of the hotel to give a better picture for people booking the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay in this part of Amalfi coast.

“Nice view but too bad about the stairs and parking costs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2009

I would not recommend this hotel is you have a car and luggage. What we didn’t realize when we booked this hotel was that the only way to get to it is by climbing 100+ stairs. This would have been fine if I didn’t have luggage but try climbing 100 stairs with 4 suitcases. We were forced to block the street at the top of the hill to unload our bags and we almost got killed by a tour bus doing it! Also, beware of parking costs...you have to park at the bottom of the hill and pay 18 euro a day!

The breakfast was not good but that was ok because we didn’t expect a 5 star meal for the price we paid.

The room was a good size but unfortunately the shower was out in the open (not in the washroom) next to our bed?! There was carpet on the floor so it was frustrating to have to put a towel on the floor every time you needed to take a shower.

By the way, the hot tub is a scam because it was closed. There wasn’t even water in it! That was very disappointing.

The best feature of the hotel was the price and the view. These are features that are hard to find in that area.

“Great View from the Palazzo Vingius”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2008

The best thing about the Palazzo Vingius was the view from our private, little terrace of the water, the town of Minori and people below. There are probably hotels with more stunning views of the Amalfi Coast but they seemed to be more expensive too - so for us, it was lovely to have a reasonably-priced room with a view where we could sit at the end of the day or late in the evening, have a quiet drink and watch the world below.
Staff at the hotel were very helpful, with someone on duty 24hrs/day - and the owner present most of the time during the day.
There is no parking at the hotel but they have access to a private garage which is a bit of a walk away (down lots of steps) and which you have to pay for, but it takes away the worry about keeping up with parking vouchers in the public parking area - and the inspectors were very visible during the day and night.
Our room was small but very clean, with a bathroom that was also very clean and well set up - there was actually room to move around in it.
The only negative was the breakfast - the coffee was weak and not worth drinking, the juice was more like cordial and the croissants were probably the worst we had in all of Italy.

  • Liked — The private terrace with views over the town
  • Disliked — the breakfast

“Breakfast with a view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2008

Finding out where to start walking the 100 steps up to Palazzo Vingius was a bit tricky, but once there, we enjoyed a hearty welcome and found a beautiful room, overlooking the beach and part of the town.

If we wanted, we could take our breakfast tray to our room and have our morning coffee on the little balcony, watching what was going on along the street and the beach below us.

The beach in Minori isn't very long, but in Maiori, 10-15 minutes walk along the road, there is a bigger one, and as guests at Palazzo Vingius we were welcome to have free sun-beds and umbrella there.

Trofimena and Andrea both speak well English, and they had answers to all our questions. Going back to Naples, we had planned to take the bus to Salerno and the train from there, but Trofimena told us that there is an early direct bus to Naples, our train tickets are valid also on that bus, and yes, it stops just around the corner of the railway station. Breakfast before leaving so early? No problem!

  • Liked — Peaceful, friendly athmosphere, clean room, wonderful view
  • Disliked — A bit limited choice for breakfast, no fruit.
