On a NIAF Unitour, stayed at the Hotel 501 in Vibo Valentia for a week in May, 2009. It seems that 501 has something to do with automobiles because there is an antique car in the lobby. Rooms were clean, neat and comfortable. Breath taking views of the coast and Mediterranean from the room (sea side with balcony). Hotel is beautiful inside. However, it is isolated and one cannot easily walk into town and the beach is too far to walk on foot.
All breakfasts and dinners were included on this trip and the food was excellent. Fruits and vegetables were fresh and the staff was very accomodating to a vegetarian diet.
Calabria was beautiful and is the undiscovered Amalfi coast.
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful but few spoke English. Learn some Italian, take an Italian-English dictionary, or find someone who is bilingual.
