My wife & I have just returned from our most recent trip (our 9th) to the beautiful island of Naxos. As much as we love Naxos, it's the warmth and hospitality of George and his family at the Hotel Galini/Sofia that makes us want to go back year after year. It amazes me how George pays so much attention to the details of running his families hotel. Everything from baking special cakes and making homemade jams from scratch (all absolutely delicious!) for his breakfast buffet to trying to accomodate the needs and special requests of his varied guests. He and his family manage to do all this while maintaining a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that always makes one feel welcome.
The rooms are spotless and decorated with thoughtful touches that add to the overall ambiance. The hotel is just steps away from St. Georges beach which, while not the best beach on Naxos by far, is ideal for families with small children due to the calm, shallow and beautifully clear water. Most rooms at the hotel have water views. The hotel is a very short walk into the main part of town where there is an abundance of restaurants, bars and shops. Keep in mind this is a small, family run hotel, not a "deluxe" resort and as such, some of the bathrooms are on the small side and there's no room service, but rest assured that George, his mother (Sofia) and father (Kostos) will all do whatever they can to make sure your stay with them is both enjoyable and filled with wonderful memories. The value for money paid is incredible.
As opposed to some of the more touristy islands, Naxos maintains a relaxed atmosphere where you always see extended families out walking or eating at the local tavernas. If you're looking for a great "Greek Island" vacation Naxos has all you could want without the crowds and high prices that go along with it and staying at the Hotel Galini/Sofia could not help but make your visit all the more memoriable. We obviously highly recommend it!
