“Fantastic Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2010

What a fantastic hotel this is. Nothing is too much trouble. The price of drinks and snacks were the same as the town which was handy when we had a lazy day round the pool. The rooms were comfortable and the air conditioning was efficient. Breakfast was enjoyable, sitting outside next to the pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool was a great size and the sun beds and parasols were plentiful. Common sense prevailed no stupid and unnecessary health and safety warnings. The walk into town was pleasant walking alongside the beach. We intend to return next year. Best hotel we've stayed in on the Greek Islands.

“WORST HOTEL EVER!!!!!!, Couldn't pay me to stay there again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

We had originally booked this hotel for 3 nights. As soon as we arrived it was nothing like the Website.
The room we were in didn't even have a window that would open properly, airconditioning didn't work. The toilet door was a piece of wood you pulled across.
We advised the receiptionist we weren't comfortable and would be moving on somewhere else, she told us to come back the next day.
When we went back to speak to the manager he took us to the policy station so they could make sure they got paid the full 3 days. we weren't rude & we were always going to pay but the owner didn't even give us the time of day.
Owner was very rude (especially to the women).
I have done a lot of travelling and have stayed all over the world, I hated the hotel.
We did however walk down the road & found another hotel (think it has GALAXY in it's name) Which cost the same but was much better....

“Excellent Hotel, highly recommended”

This hotel is just perfect. Close enough to Naxos Town (about 10 minute walk along the beach front) but far enough away from the noise and bustle if you want to have an early night. The staff are fantastic. Michael is on the ball keeping his place running like a well oiled machine. There is free internet available for the hotel guests, but not to be taken up by kids playing. Some guests seem to think that they are above the rules that Michael has in place but he is quick to assure them that this is for the benefit of all his guests.
The rooms are very clean and extremely well maintained when compared to other Greek Hotels. I would suggest that if you want to stay in Naxos Town then this is the place for you, couples or families alike will enjoy everything on offer. The pool is fantastic and has a small kids pool on one side.

“Excellent, Clean, Friendly, Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

I stayed for 17 nights, and made many observations. First it is "personally cared for", the owner is an older gentlemen [I think name is Michael Margaritas??], and is present every day directing the employees. It is the little things that in themselves you do not usually notice, but add up to create an overall impression. The grounds are well manicured, vegetable gardens on one side, a small grape vineyard on the other, flower and cactus plantings all around. The choice in pool furniture, nice lounge chairs, clean and beautiful pool and pool deck, public areas clean. I observed many times the owner out directing the staff in the early morning "why is this ash-tray not emptied", "why is this corner of the pool deck not swept clean?" Trust me, this personal attention makes all the difference compared to corporate/commercial hotel or hotel with passive owner. It is his baby, his pride and joy!
The rooms are clean, no stains on walls or ceilings from dead bugs, no mold growing in corners of shower, slept in comfortable clean sheets. The beds are hard (no box spring mattress- just wooden slat under mattress) but I liked the bed firm, it was good. I suspect the room is about as good as it gets for being "on Island", tiled floors, small LCD TV, mini-refrigerator which is key for storing fruits and drinks from very nearby grocery store. It is not a "5 star city furnished" room with marble top bathroom vanities- but you will not find that anywhere in Naxos; but all amenities and fixtures were clean and appropriate. Air Conditioner worked fine, but much of the time I left the veranda doors wide open for nice breeze- bugs were not any issue, and safety is not issue (I left my door unlocked most times when going to pool, left my laptop on the desk with just small laptop lock to chair- but all without concern). Clientele is mix of Greek and Euro persons on vacation- families, older couples, families with mid-teen aged children, families with infants. Just guessing that there are only about 30 rooms, so easy to meet and have conversation with other guests at personal level.
Internet access in room was by LAN cable, and internet speed was decent. Had wireless in pool and lobby areas, and in many rooms I am sure had this wireless access (including my room) but I used the LAN cable.
Breakfast is at 8:00 AM (until whenever); coffee available by 7:30 AM, always had fried eggs, scrambled eggs with vegetables, sausage and bacon, fruits, breads, cereals- was nice breakfast.
Staff was very helpful, the front desk woman who worked days and the also the front desk woman who worked evenings- very personable and helpful- calling for taxis, recommending restaurants, pointing out places of interest, and just plain friendly and hospitable.
Location is perfect for me, not directly down town with its nightly busy activity in tight streets... but 8 minute walk down the beach to get to these narrow streets with stores and restaurants and tons of tourists, and can escape back to privacy and solitude at the Astir. 2 minutes to beach and some beach restaurants, about 8 minutes to town center (shopping, dense restaurants); probably about 16 or 17 minutes by foot all the way to the port where ferry comes in. Walked from hotel to town every day/night.
Of Course, when I first arrived, knowing that this was going to be home for 17 nights, I was hopeful that it would be suitable, clean, good internet.... and within minutes after arriving and being shown my room I was happy and satisfied that I had made a good choice (from doing internet research, expectations are not always met). But this was perfect. Again, good location not directly in the hub-bub of the city, but close enough to access quickly; clean and manicured, personable helpful staff, clean comfortable room, nice pool, good breakfast! All good.

“Perfect Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

We stayed in Astir Hotel in June, my husband and two year old son. It was a perfect stay. The hotel is on best location on the island in my opinion, only 3 minutes walk to the beach and a 10 minutes walk to town. They serve nice breakfast, the hotel is very clean, also the swimming pool, it is quite and beautifully decorated with flowers everywhere. It is a small family hotel and if you are looking for that it is a perfect choice.
We arrived very early in the morning by ferry boat and since the room was not ready yet they offered breakfast, free of charge, made cappuccinos every day also free of charge (otherwise in town it costs cca 4 EUR), the last day we had the ferry boat at 10 p.m. and they let us have the room all day, also free of charge. The owner and all the staff are too nice! I cannot say anything negative about the hotel or our stay.
