“Hidden gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

Stayed for one week at Anixis
Trip adviser suggested the hotel was difficult to find, as we were arriving late at night we emailed the hotel to ask for directions Dimitris the owner said he would pick us up at the port. and true to his word he was waiting for us when we arrived. The room was basic Greek but very clean and comfortable with fridge. air conditioning and safe all included.
The breakfast was again basic and very Greek but plentiful. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to people with walking difficulties,But if your resonably fit it is in a good location with a wonderful view out to sea, and not far from shops and restaurants.

“Nowhere nicer to stay in Naxos town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2010

Naxox old town is a warren of quaint narrow passages with nothing much resembling a modern road and it can feel a bit stifling. Hotel Anixis, perched at the top of the hill close to the old castle is like a breath of fresh air with it's terrace breakfast area overlooking the whole town and the sea. Our room had views both down to the sea, with the impressive 2600 year old temple gate ( looking like a portal from a science fiction film ) and the steep sided hills along the coast.

We were met at the port by Dimitri, the owner, who spoke good english, he had to drive some distance round the back of the town to get to the back of the hotel, another guest arriving on the same ferry as us chose to walk and arrived first. Once you know the way, it is only a few minutes walk up through the little lanes from the sea front. As you navigate the passages, Dinitri has thoughtfully discretely stencilled directions on the pavement in places where you might otherwise get confused, they are not intrusive and you need to look carefully but after a tiring day and few glasses in the town they are very welcome.

We had only intended to stay a couple of nights but it was such a great place and the island had so much to offer that we ended up staying for 6 nights. Everything was clean and fresh without being clinical (as modern hotels are inclined to be). The pictures on their web site don't really do it justice, for instance as you walk in through the densely packed little flower garden in the evening, the smell of the night scented flowers is just delightful. Fantastic value in a place where a meal for two or a few cocktails may well cost more than the room at this hotel, friendly family atmosphere, all the guests of all nationalities seemed so happy to be there, we can't praise it highly enough. It even had wi-fi and good air-con, no room in the old town for a pool but with the sea only a few minutes away who cares.

“Great Location. Excellent value.”

We arrived at Naxos at midnight and did not want to worry about finding the hotel so we arranged a pick up. If we did not arrange a pick up I will admit we would definately have had a hard time finding the place. We stayed for 4 nights and loved every minute of our stay in Naxos and in Hotel Anixis. The hotel was extremnly clean. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean, we would sleep with the doors open and wake up to a stunning view. We had room 6 which was right under the communal area used for breakfast. I believe this room produces the greatest view. The location is great being right in the old area, however still close to everything. The area is extremnly quiet at night. We used public transit to get to all th beaches and found this to be quite easy. The hotel staff were great, however I did not find them overly friendly, which was fine with me. Overall, I would recommend Hotel Anixis and would not hesitate to stay in Naxos Chora even if my intentions are to go to the beaches. Naxos is definately worth a visit.

“don't trust Anixis Hotel”

I booked 2 bedrooms for 5 days holiday in Naxos on March 2009. Mr Dimidri confirmed me availability for the 2 bedrooms in Anixis Hotel, which is located in the old town centre, next to the castle. When it came the day of our arrival (27th august), Mr Dimitri had already given our rooms to someone else, so he took us to an other Resort they have near St. George beach, which is a noisy place with no interest far away from the town centre. There we had no view, and one of the room, couldn't believe, was under ground level!!!Horrible experience, fortunately we found place at Old Town Pension which is just behind the Castle.

“Great place once you find it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2009

Very nice hotel in a great location ONCE YOU FIND IT. Which is incredibly difficult to do. It is deep in the labyrinth of stepped tiny arcaded corridors that are called “streets” in Naxos. Delightful to wander around, but not with your bags (and we only had one 18 inch each) looking for the hotel. They need to either give guests good directions or mark it better. Once there the rooms are spotless, spacious and have TV, AC, Fridge, and your own terrace. The rooftop terrace (where breakfast is served) is available all day and has great views of the cathedral and whole town including the portara. They do have free wi-fi too but the signal strength was usually so low that it didn’t work. To find the Anixis – from the promenade along the harbor enter the old town where it says “old market” and then look for signs for Hotel Panorama which is very well marked. Just keep following those signs till you are in front of the Hotel Panorama, then look past it one street to see the sign for the Anixis. Alternately take the road (car road, tiny sidewalk) from in front of the ferry dock a couple of blocks till you see the grocery store/fruit market, and bear right which brings you to the cathedral in another half block. From in front of the cathedral enter the old town, go up the steps to the next tiny square where you have to turn right or left – turn right, immediately left, next left, next right and it’s just ahead. Each of these turns is about a half minute walk. Before my trip I had emailed the hotel asking for directions and they to follow the signs marked on the pavement. This is NOT sufficient, their signs are few and far between. Your best bet is to follow the signs for the Panorama.
