We actually stayed in Kastro which is the sister accomodation to the Zevgoli. Its a wonderful situation set high up in the old castle walls and is so atmospheric, as its full of antique furniture, books and ornaments, its like staying in a friends house more than a hotel or studio. Its as far removed from faceless hotel block as one could get. Very clean and well looked after, a lovely victorian style brass bed, The staff at the Zevgoli when ever we popped in could not have been nicer or more helpful, and treated us like old friends, actually the people in Naxos generally we found to be really welcoming. The lady at Fun Cars at the port where we hired our jeep from was delighful and so full of tips and ideas, and she never led us wrong. The Kastro is right in the middle of the old town so its a bit of a rabbit warren to navigate round but thats hlaf the fun!, Yet it is still peaceful with a lovely shared courtyard and we had a super enclosed balcony with views over to the sea. I lived on Paros, the next door island, for 5 years until 2010 and had I lived on Naxos I might well still be there! I would happily reccomend Kastro, The Zevgoli and Naxos itself to anyone who loves Greece and wants to really experience the 'real' Greece.

First time on Naxos and so pleased that we chose Chateau Zevgoli - nothing disappointed. The arrangements to get to the hotel worked well and its location was perfect, not far from the lovely streets and the waterfront yet incredibly peaceful. We had booked a suite and were lucky enough to get the one on the top floor with views over the town and port, and the terrace outside where we joined other guests to watch the sunset. Yes perhaps the bed was a bit hard and the shower hand held but these were totally outweighed by the hotel, the location, the room and the staff. The lady at breakfast was lovely, and really don't understand the negative comments about the breakfast. The girl on reception from late morning till the evening was so helpful, full of great local information. We loved Naxos both the town and the inland mountain villages. A great experience.

Naxos is a lovely island to visit, the hotel is in a central location but difficult to find if you don't have help, luckily we had transfers. we were in room (10) there was a lovely view from the window across the sea, as well as a terrace outside, altough i did get told off for putting my washing out there to dry. the room was spacious with a day bed in a room, as there was only two of us this made the room bigger. the furniture was old fashioned, very greek, the bathroom was fine, but the fridge was dirty and was not cleaned thoughout our stay. we also used two glasses which were also not cleaned. the towels were a bit hard and were not changed everyday and infact not touched wherever they were left! the receptionist was pleasant and let us use the laptop anytime we wanted to to keep in contact with home. The breakfast room was dull, dark but very greek, we were served by a greek lady who didn't speak alot of english it consisted of bread with spreads, a cold hard boiled egg, juice coffee and tea, and greek yoghurt and honey, we didn't want the yoghurt so we were given cheese instead. "no yoghurt, cheese" she said and put it on the table! On the whole a pleasant stay but could have been better, we hired a moped and visited more beaches, we found naxos hard to get around, would visit again loved naxos. although not necessarily that hotel.

What makes this place is the location and the wonderful, friendly service of the charming and lovely young woman Eleni, who works in the afternoon and who has excellent tips on restaurants, beaches, and the like.

Breakfast gets boring after more than a day, since there is always the same bread, the same jams, the same eggs, etc.
