When Hurrican Irene iced our plans for a vacation on the outer banks of NC, we decided to try Virginia. We were able to book a week in Williamsburg but needed to find a hotel for one night in or around Norfolk as this is where we flew into. We selected this location because we have never been disappointed by a Hilton Garden Inn property. We were pleasantly surprised to find that this particular property is situated a block off of the main road, so there is no road noise and no difficulty accessing the property. Also, a movie theatre is located next door. We didn't visit it but this could be a plus if you're planning to be here for several days. Our room was ready when we arrived, mid-afternoon. We checked out the pool and spa and had the entire place to ourselves. The pool could use a bit work, I thought it was dirty but what I was seeing on the bottom was worn concrete. There was a weight room adjacent to the pool area and another guest appeared to be making good use of those facilities. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had a great night's sleep; it was very quiet inside the hotel. The only disappointing aspect of our stay was the restaurant. The woman who owns/runs the restaurant was the only person working the front of the business while one person was working (cooking) in the back. It was a long wait for anything that you wanted to have cooked, i.e. pancakes, eggs, waffles. The woman's english was very difficult to understand and she overstayed her welcome at our table. We were glad to see other diners as she eventually moved on to their tables. The food was poor in quality and I left hungry. It took a long time to get our check and we finally gave up and left money on the table. This was very disappointing since we've enjoyed a good breakfast at other Garden Inn's; however, overall the rest of our stay was enjoyable.
