“Fondest memories and yearly celebration!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We had the pleasure in getting married there back in 2005 and keep the fondest memories of these two days celebrating. We had so much fun and the place is simply magic...standing out on that restaurant verandah and admiring the view over Bonnieux leaves one simply breathless. We keep going back year after year and enjoy a few meals cooked by Edouard Loubet and his team. You can taste Edouard's passion for food in very mouthful and notice his wife Isabelle's attention to details in all the surroundings. We simply can never get enough and going back every year is a celebration of the moments we lived 7 years ago but also of a place where time stops and it's all about enjoyment with family and friends for us. For us this is one of the better places you will find in the south of France and everything about it is memorable.

“Beautiful views, good food and long walks in the country....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We spent 5 nights at Domaine de Capelongue and really enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful, the property is in a very quiet area, with amazing views of Bonniew and the hills. We had a room in the main house on the 1st floor. The room was large, with a king size bed, a sofa and table. The bathroom was likewise very large and we had lots of closet space to hide our luggage. The bath products are infused with lavender and other herbes of Provence.

Breakfast was delicious, everyday there were freshly baked pastries, bread, fresh fruit, eggs, meats and cheese. When the weather was good we were able to eat outside which made it even more enjoyable. We ate dinner at the hotel for 5 nights and we were not disappointed in the food at all. The food is creative and beautifully presented. Chef Loubet is very gifted in the use of local herbs, some very unusual, and that makes the food interesting. Most of the food is locally sourced and very fresh. I agree with others below that service could be improved and made more seamless. The staff was generally friendly and helpful, but things did not always flow for a restaurant of this calibre. Aperitifs were served on the terrace overlooking the grounds and the town of Bonnieux in the distance, the sunsets were amazing.

The property is about a 20 minute walk from Bonnieux. We walked into town everyday and also took long walks on the country roads by the hotel.

“This is a lovely and quiet spot...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

maybe too quiet for us. We were a bit underwhelmed but I would say it was more us than the place. There are many good reviews of this place and I believe they are correct if you are looking for this sort of thing. We too were like the last reviewer and tried this because of the Michelin starred chef on the property. All of the places we stayed on this trip were about dining at Michelin designated restaurants. And his food was very good, but it was not a luxurious sort of place, nor was the food. He was creative and it was tasty but the surroundings were very basic including our room. And it was a big step down after staying in the Riviera and two of the finest places on the Cote D' Azur. So it is not fair to compare! That is why I say if you are looking to stay in the country and enjoy beautiful views, good food, and the simple things in life, you will love this place. It is not for the glamor-seekers:)

P.S. Our best day here was hiring a private tour guide, Martine (the front desk recommended her, kudos to them). We saw the Luberon and the villages surrounding it; we learned so much and saw so much that we could not have found or enjoyed on our own. And it was a joy to spend our day with her.

“Only for the brave !”

We prefer to stay in Hotels with Michelin Starred Restaurants wherever possible, this together with the location and the Relais Chateau listing was our reason for choosing this place. The location is good and secluded with fabulous views. The property at first glance seems wonderfull and the reception is friendly and very helpfull, but our Room low down ,dark with not much view even though it had a small terrace (overlooked from the room above). The ground are well kept and there is a superb swimming pool and surrounding terrace.
To say that the Restaurant was a disapointment would be an understatement.
We started with the House aperitif which was Champagne with truffle (sounede weird but I thought it would be drinkable !) It was AWFULL and after one sip I told the Lady Head Waiter that it was the worst thing I had ever drank (in both French and English), the comment was completely ignored. This was to set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The service was generally unfriendly and not especially helpfull,
Most of the courses were OK although Edouard Loubet the "Grand Chef" does use some weird flavours and the Lavender and truffle are overdone. I admit this could be our taste and not necessarily their fault (although our gastronimic experiences are world wide and encompass 1 through to 3 Michelin Starred establishments in abundance).
I am however perfectly able to distinguish UNCOOKED souffle , one of the 2 served was well undercooked and met the same response when the staff were told about it, ie. Ignored completely. I also consider that previous courses of food should be finished and cleared prior to the next one being served !
Dinner ended with the smallest Expresso I have ever experienced, the coffee (less than 1cm /5/8" deep) just about covered the bottom of the expresso cup .
Bad value, badly served and not worthy of a Michelin Star.
After a night on one of the hardest beds I have spelp in for some time, breakfast was the opposite (so perhaps this was just a bad night ?) . Served on the terrace with good selection on the buffet and a more friendly approach.

Room Tip: Get a room on at least the 1st floor . Some of the flavours used in the cuisine are an
