The location is fantastic - St Martin de Re is the perfect French family resort. You could never get around all the cafes and restaurants there are and the port with its stalls and fab ice creams is perfect. Get a bike and ride around the island - it's easy as the island is small and almost totally flat with bicycle paths throughout.
The complex is nice enough, although it's NOT the kind of place where you could spend all day by the pool. There are few sunbeds and we were lucky, but a friend who went on my recommendation the next year in august had poor weather...although we were Ok, with only a couple of days of rain in the fortnight.
The rooms are basic and the beds are poor. We had two bathrooms, but much less space than we have found at other P&V establishments. We were quite depressed when we got into our first floor apartment, as it had NO outside space, not even a balcony, but we got a change after 5 days and it changed our outlook. We could have breakfast and lunch outdoors and sit out for a glass of wine after we put the kids to sleep. Before we had felt incarcerated in a very tight space.
Despite these caveats, we had one of the best holidays ever - mainly due to the fun we had cycling around the island. Ile de Re is really special.
