Novotel Thalassa Oleron St Trojan is located on the beachfront in the Ile d’Oleron. The island is connected to the mainland by the longest bridge in France and is interesting to cross especially at low tide.
Check-in: All went accordingly to plan without any hiccups. – Delightful friendly staff who spoke excellent English.
Room: Our room 330 was a superior oceanfront with lovely sea views. The room was small & compact with a double bed, working desk, broadband, safe, mini fridge and a small balcony. The modern bathroom was again on the small size but workable.
Restaurants: The Le Pertuis dining room was always busy as it was the Summer Holidays and the hotel was packed with families. We enjoyed dining outside on the terrace which overlooked the sea. Dinner was satisfactory and breakfast had a variety of continental food.
There are plenty of excellent restaurants & cafes in town (Saint-Trojan) if looking for something different. Its approx 5min drive and can also be easily reached by cycling along the bike track.
Facilities: There is an indoor heated swimming pool which we didn’t use as it was far too warm & stuffy. The Thalassotherapy Centre is connected to the hotel which offers all kinds of massage & beauty services. Bicycles can be rented from the hotel. Free outdoor secure car-parking is also offered.
Overall: We enjoyed experiencing the French holiday resort filled with French families. The hotel is not luxurious but has a lovely comfortable holiday atmosphere. The beach has oyster beds & is very tidal with no waves. However, at high tide it looked beautiful. This hotel is perfect for those who enjoy simple activities like swimming, cycling or fishing.
