We have stayed at this hotel 4 summers in a row, so that probably says it all. Our stays are generally long weekends of between 2-4 nights. We love the Ile de Re because it's so easy to get there from Paris on the TGV and it's then about a 40 minute drive from the station to the Ile. The selling point of Les Gollandieres is its wonderful location next to a gorgeous sandy beach. A short walk in the opposite direction takes you to the town of Le Bois Plage en Re, which has a market each morning in the summer and where you can buy provisions for a picnic lunch to enjoy in the conviently located park that sits between the hotel and the little town. In the evening it's about a 10 minute drive into St Martin for dinner, altho I hesitate to recommend any restaurant there as they all seem to have some good days and some bad ones. As for the hotel, it is very basic. The public areas are nice, the pool is well maintained, the outdoor dining looks quite lovely. We have had some larger rooms and some really tiny ones, and the bathrooms in some of the rooms are about as small and badly laid out as any I've ever seen. Prices don't seem to vary much between the larger and the smaller rooms, but the hotel does get booked up so we have had to take what we could get. We do not take the full board as we like to have some variety for breakfast and dinner, but we have had dinner there and the food and service were quite good. If you are looking for luxury look elsewhere. If you want a very reasonably priced hotel in a great location this is a perfect choice. One last caveat, we speak French so we do not know if the staff speak English altho I would guess that they do, however for shopping in the market a bit of French is helpful.

beware if on a b and b basis they refuse to honour this ,i even phoned head office in the states and they agreed it was bed including breakfast to which they faxed this hotel to which they ignored ,12 pounds each to boil our own eggs each morning,best western head office are now in the process of reimbursing us,not a nice way to,finnish your holiday

I stayed here for 5 nights whilst my daughter and son in law and 2 lively boys of 6 + 8 stayed in a nearby camp site Sunelia Interlude some 800 metres away and came over daily for part of the day.
The hotel was pleasant with friendly staff and a heated swimming pool 27 C (often ‘heated’ pools are not really heated) and a bonus was the presence o f a good swimming teacher each day from 11am to 12.30. The boys made more progress in a few days both swimming and diving than in many months of UK group lessons.
We ate twice at lunch time and once in the evening in the hotel and the food was excellent with childrens menus for the boys. The hotel is about 150 metres from the beach with waves enough for boarding and firm sand at low tide for walking on. The island is equiped with many cycle tracks and cycling is a real pleasure. there is a local market daily.
Just by the sea there is a pleasant restaurant with fish ‘Beau Rivage’ accompanied by a pleasant white Ile de Re wine for 12 euros and next to it a café when your requirements are more modest.

The staff showed great attention to detail We even received a 'phone call to confirm our time of arrival, in order to ensure a plan B should our flight be delayed.

We stayed at the Best Western Les Gollndieres for four nights in September 2007. The bedroom allocated was too small and dark but the receptionist simply complied with our request and we were moved to a very pleasant lighter room. The bed was cllean and very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the service excellent. Chef 's dishes were inspirational and sculptural delights; tantilising the senses. The food was the best that we had ever tasted. The Oysters are highly recommended!! So fresh just as one would expect.

The location is ideal for both the beach and driving further afield.

We would happily go back again out of season. Also fine for a romantic break!!
