A small friendly hotel on the tiny harbour of Rivedoux. Drop-dead gorgeous receptionist extremely helpful, pool clean and comfortably heated, restaurant bright and pleasant, with a sheltered open-air annex across the road on the harbour wall.
On the other hand, the rooms are tiny, with abrasive wall finishes that get you when you try to pass the beds, which are comfortable but terribly low. Our 'balcony' was big enough for one small chair, but not my knees, unless I sat sideways.
Food was generally excellent, particularly the squid in cognac and cream sauce, which ranks among my favourite meals of all time. On the other hand, I got a steak which was so tough I literally could not eat it. Regrets were expressed by the attentive staff, but no alternative was offered, nor was the bill reduced.
We had to cut our stay short by one day, and informed the receptionist three days in advance. She, not the vision of the first day but a lemon-taster with poor people skills, tried to insist that we pay for the full week originally booked.
No.
