We booked La Galiote for a week after reading the other reviews, and it was an excellent choice. We went in early October, so just out of season, and were extremely well looked after. Marie and Jean, the owners, don't speak a word of English but are absolutely lovely and could not have been more welcoming.
We booked the superior double for a bigger bed, and our room was fantastic. We were in one of the 'exterior' rooms - there are a couple of separate buildings with 3 or 4 rooms each away from the main building - we had a large room with air con, plenty of wardrobe space, table & chairs and a couple of comfy chairs for sitting/reading as well. There was a TV but it only carries French channels. And the ensuite bathroom was fabulous - very stylish, his&her basin and a wet room style shower.
Outside was another table & chairs, perfect for enjoying a picnic breakfast or lunch in the sunshine.
Breakfast is not included in the price; we took it on the first morning and it was a delicious and substantial breakfast of bread, pastries, yoghurt & fresh fruit; but after that we picked up what we wanted every morning from the market, the boulangerie, the fromagerie and the 8 till 8 supermarket (actually more like 9.30 till 1 and 3 till 7.30 while we were there!) - all of which are a very short walk from the hotel in the centre of La Flotte.
For getting around there is a bus stop very near the hotel, and you can rent bikes and cycle everywhere you want - it really is as easy as the tourist guides say.
The only things I would take next time to make the stay absolutely perfect would be a pair of slippers (the floor of the room and the bathroom is tiled throughout and can be a little chilly in cool weather) and a travel kettle. I gathered from Marie that they used to have them in the room until some (English) visitors used one to cook fish soup in!!
