Booked through Brittany Ferries, having seen previous reviews on this website. We received a very warm welcome and all hotel staff were cheerful, polite and efficient.. Room was immaculate and comfortable. Before booking we considered the two Logis de France in the town but this hotel has the big advantage of being in easy walking distance of the centre, restaurants etc., We were glad that we had picked Les Dunes as both Logis were some way out.

We spent a week at the hotel. The reception was pleasant from the start, with very helpful staff, albeit most spoke only French. Not a problem really...

The room was adequate and as there were shutters, a good night's sleep was gained. I found the bed comfy and slept well, although my partner found his bad back didn't like the matress. The bathroom was wonderful whether you wanted a very powerful hot shower, or a long soak in a deep and ample bath tub (the shower was over the shower).

Breakfast was more than adequate with a wide choice from the buffet selection....you can get lunch and dinner there too, but we chose to eat at the various restaurants around the village and other towns.

On a cloudy afternoon we went for a splash in the indoor pool, but it's not long enough to use for exercise, more relaxation. As we went outside of the main season, there were no children staying so it was quite a chilled time.

The beach is across the road (on a bend) from the hotel, but with recent traffic calming humps, car speeds are managed to avoid accidents ! The beach at this point is good for sunbathing but rock pools mean that swimming isn't viable other than at high tide. A short walk, drive or cycle to La Terriere is the best option...the beach there is patrolled and sand and swimming are fabulous !

I'd recommend this hotel and resort to anyone as there is something for everyone here.....The Forge would be my recommendation for good, basic French food....

We stayed here a couple of nights on the way down into La Rochelle. La Tranche is a great little resort, rather touristy but a has everything you need. Les Dunes is just across the road from the beach but bear in mind you have to cross a busy road and walk through the car park.

Our stay was a positive one, my only gripe was with the room, it was at the back and rather small, OK for a couple of nights though and lovely and cool. Bear in mind if you have a sea-facing room you will get the full heat of the sun for most of the day but they have shutters which are essential.

The restaurant was good, especially for sea food lovers and the staff were all friendly and approachable.

Not being able to drive any further we arrived in La Tranche-Sur-Mer where I asked a local girl to recommend a hotel, she gave us the name of Les Dunes just down the road. I was a bit worried to see it was only a two star hotel but you know our stay there has changed my mind about two star hotels forever and will be included in our list in future! It was spotlessly clean, huge room, fabulous restaurant, internet access, friendly staff - I could go on and on. Ok it had no ac, towels a bit old, bedclothes a bit old but everything very clean. Highly recommended!
