Arrived at Tréguier on a Saturday evening at 9.30pm in peak season, looking for a last-minute place to stay. First tried the Aigue-Marine, but was put off by unfriendly service and shabby rooms. Further along the keyside, I came across the Estuaire. Situated above a small snackbar, it did not have such a welcoming entrance as the Aigue Marine. I spoke to the bar tender (half of the husband and wife team who run the hotel, restaurant and bar.) His wife showed me around the only room they had left, due to a cancellation. The room was small and basically furnished, but clean, bright and comfotable. Cream furnishings, a firm, foam mattress and a view onto a small courtyard and other old stone buildings. There was a small TV, small desk, sink and 'capsule' shower unit. Although the room did not look to have been recently 'renovated' it did seem recently 'refurbished' with new-looking carpets, paint, curtains and sheets.
As it is the smallest room in the hotel (no 12), it did not have a toilet. The shared toilet was next door. It was also spotlessly clean, and I was not disturbed during the night by noise from other users.
Arriving late, I expected to have problems finding something to eat, but we were welcomed into the bustling restaurant with views over the estuary. Two delicious fish meals and a small carafe of wine for €30.
The following morning after a peaceful night's sleep, a nice good-pressure hot shower.
Breakfast was a typical basic French affair - crusty bread, croissants, butter, jam, orange juice and a hot drink. All fresh and tasty. €6 per person.
Checking out I realised that in my hurry the previous evening, I had not asked the price of the room! I was pleasantly amazed to find it was only €35 per room, per night, due to it's small size and lack of toilet.
The owners are polite and friendly (though you may need to speak French to understand Monsieur's dry, morose sense of humour!) I spoke French but in the restaurant heard at least basic English spoken.
Overall a very clean, basic but friendly hotel. Well situated by the old town and by far better value for money and more flexible and friendly than the 3star Aigue Marine. The hotel is next to a small public car park too - very handy.
