“good hotel in very nice village”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel and were pleased with the spacious room and big bed (not very common in France). The owner is very helpful with giving all kind of information. A pity that the coffee and tea at breakfast tasted like salted dish water and thatthe croissants were not fresh. Apart from that, everything was perfect. We ate a very good pizza at Fontana dit Trevi (end of the street). Suggestion in the neighbourhood: brasserie Cafe de France in Barfleur!

“Like coming home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

After originally only asking the owner of La Granitiere for directions in December 2010, his warmth and helpfulness ensured that we changed our accommodation to spend a few nights in St Vaast and repay the kindness that had been shown to us. The friendliness of the owner and his repartree was matched by his level of service and ambience of the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and vowed to return if we were to ever return to the region.
Fortunately, we were lucky enough to return in August of 2011 and the welcome given to us by the owner was almost like we were coming home. We again felt most comfortable and relaxed and can't wait until we are again in Normandy. One of our favourite resting places in Europe.

Room Tip: On both occasions that we stayed we had a room on the first floor and both were most comfortable.

“A lovely welcoming and relaxing place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

I picked La Granitiere because it had such good reviews on TripAdvisor and was very pleased with the choice. John Paul made us very welcome after teasing us for parking too near his lovely flower beds! We had a lovely room, very spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good, cereal, ham, cheese, fresh coffee, jam, yoghurt and lots of bread.
The town is an excellent place to spend a few days, we wouldn’t have used the car as there were lots of lovely walks from the hotel but the weather turned wet so we went to the museum at Utah beach which was well worth the visit.
We ate at Le Chasse Maree which was excellent, friendly with good food and pleasant surroundings.

Room Tip: Email the hotel and ask for the room that you want

“Basil Faulty: alive and well and living in Normandy!”

I've been visiting St. Vaast for many years, and I love the place. Last year, I persuaded my wife to come with me and find out what all the fuss was about. On that occasion we stayed at the Hotel de France, which we enjoyed. But there is one other hotel in the town, so this time we thought we'd try La Granitiere instead.
The reviews here on TripAdvisor were promising, so I booked online via booking.com.

On arrival, the owner made a bit of a point out of the fact that I had booked online, but burst into laughter as he delighted in telling us that we had the smallest room in the hotel. He then proceeded to explain the rate list displayed on the wall to demonstrate just what skinflints we were for choosing the cheapest price.

More laughter as he explained that it was a long walk up to the garret that was our room. On the way up, we had to stop off to be shown a 'real' room of the sort booked by people who weren't quite so tight!

More laughter again as he showed us a perfectly adequate room that frankly wasn't that different from the superior one demonstrated earlier.

The only downside to the hotel and its room was the noise from a water tank valve somewhere nearby, which sounded rather like snoring!

So in summary: nice hotel, clean and convenient (can't comment about the breakfast, because we didn't take it, but the breakfast room is very nicely decorated)... shame about a proprietor who thinks it's OK to take the **** out of his guests.

It'll be back to the Hotel de France for us on or next visit later this year.

Room Tip: Maybe phone the hotel direct, rather than using an online agency. No language problem.
