On arrival at the hotel we were allocated an attic romm which was so small that one person had to sit on the bed fro the other to move around. There was also a portable fan running as the room was so stuffy but this made little difference. On asking to change rooms we could not be accommodated until the following day. We were then moved to a room on the first floor which was more spacious and airy. The staff were very helpful in this as they moved our luggage while we went out. In general the rooms are quite noisy with people moving about in other rooms but this is to be expected as the property is very old and creaky.
The general standard of cleanliness was good but the hotel lacked atmosphere and the lounge area was cold (not temperature) and uninviting. The breakfast was very limited on even for continental style with no cereals on offer which most hotels offer these days. The hotel was understaffed with one person dealing with the breakfast room and simultaneously cleaning the floors and dealing with reception. English speaking staff is only available on certain days.
The restaurant had more atmosphere and though serving good food was not considered value for money..
