“strange visit”

I see that previous reviews were over six months ago. I think some things have changed. First the positive. It sounds like the rooms have been redone since prevous posts. They are small, but spotless and comfortable. It is nice to look out the windows at the countryside in this charming town. We chose the five course dinner. The food was flawless--every course was delicious. Now the strange part--the negative. We never saw anyone in the reception area. I had to go into the restaurant to find out how to check in and finally a person came to give me keys. There was no help to the third floor with luggang--no elevator. Although the food was delicious, the timing of the courses was way off. The first two or three came quite quickly and then we waited over an hour for the main course. All this without any explanation or comment from the server. The next morning there was no one in the breakfast room to help patrons and when we checked out a woman who had been mopping the floor in the kitchen came to help us. Reviews from last year mentioned the charming chef and his wife---they were not in evidence during our visit. Maybe this was just an unusual weekend or something. If we had been greeted warmly and told that they were short staffed it would have made a big difference in my review.

Forget the cynics about Durbuy...."too touristy". Baloney. This is set in a beautiful wooded valley with a beautiful small river. It is a cobblestoned, castled gem of a place. Tell the hundreds of europeans who crowd it during the day. Multiple good hotels and restaurants, you can walk around this small town and breathe in the air and woodsmoke for hours. Plenty of outdoor activities. I've been to Durbuy 4 times and love it. The hotel is extremely well done, I guess in a building that is hundreds of years old. Very tastefully renovated. Small but very clean and stylish room, I do not care about amenities beyond room & location, so I generally could care less if there's internet or a pool. You'll have to check out the website to find out. BUt the location is lovely, the town is lovely, and I HIGHLY recommend walking around at dusk or night, especially if you like photography. Many good restaurants (we ate at Vieux Pont, but I've eaten at Le Sanglier des Ardennes also, and it was ****). I'd have no second thoughts about going to Les Recollets. Breakfast was typical and very good. Staff spoke adequate english.

“A True Counrtry Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2010

This charming hotel/restaurant located in the charming town of Durbuy was too cute. A 16th building with all of the modern comforts. Each room is beautifully and tastefully decorated and maintained.Located in the heart of the Ardennes this hotel is the ideal base for exploring the area. The owners take a great deal of pride in their property and it shows. It is the restaurant that is the star of this inn. Outstanding food with an innovative menu makes this a destination worth seeking out and spending time at.

“Very good restaurant - Very low quality of rooms”

We already visited the restaurant several times and we appreciate it highly.
For the first time we stayed in the hotel, which is not in line with the style of the restaurant. Rooms are not only old fashioned but have many defects : hole in the ceiling through wich water weeps through when upstairs neighours are taking a shower, chandelier with ware electric wirings, very noisy (you can hear every step of the upstairs neighbours).
The price of the rooms is completely not in balance with the comfort.
The hotel management told us that the rooms on the first floor will be completely renovated in 2010, which is highly recommended.
