“Family skiing holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We returned to this Apartment/hotel (mixture of hotel rooms and apartments, with a choice of full hotel service or self-catering) in February 2012, having stayed here once before (in 2010). The hotel is large and spacious, with plenty of facilities for families. The apartments themselves are sufficiently large for one week of a sports holiday: skiing during the day, and in the pool/sauna/steam-room in the late afternoon/evening. Among the strong points of this Aparthotel are the buffets for breakfast and evening: these are sufficiently diverse that even the more difficult 'eaters' in our party found plenty of choice.
The ski-resort of Bad Gastein (in fact all of the villages in the Gastein valley) is also well suited for families, with good runs and good schools. This hotel and the resort combined for a skiing holiday that will be repeated.

“Good Aparthotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed at the Bellevue for a week from 21st January 2012 for skiing. Apartments are spacious and warm and the furnishings were modern and comfortable. We had a decently equipped kitchen, albeit without an oven, although we did have a hob and microwave. Little bonus was the i-Pod docking station which meant that we could play our music but disappointed that there was no DVD player. The internet price was a bit hefty at 25€ for the week and the connection wasn't exactly fast. The facilities were good with a nice pool and spa complex and even a bowling alley. We only ate in the restaurant once and the food was well worth the 17.5€/ Probably the best thing about the place was the superb reception staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, from finding a Doctor when my wife twisted her knee in a fall, to organising a meal at the Bellevue Alm (see separate review). All in all, a place that we would recommend.

Room Tip: At the back with a balcony looking over the main street and across the valley

“Gorgeous”

If not for this hotel - we would never ever have ventured so deep into Austria. This beautiful resort hotel is located in the Ski Capital of Austria but even in Summers offers a lot to its guests.
The rooms are tiny but cozy and if you are able to get one facing the bellevue its well worth the efforts.

Just an hour away from Salsburg and Innsbruk , Badgastain's a perfect place to park yourself for a week long vacation

Room Tip: Bellevue facing rooms

“Outstanding holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

Okay, you do need a bit of good weather to get the best out of this location off season (mid- Sept). If you get it, you're in for something very special. There are a few indoor activities including a very nice pool and spa should you need to stay indoors. Also many posh local spas! It's very quiet this time of year which suits us fine.

Self catering one bed was very comfortable - two extra pull down beds if needed, very well equipped kitchen (no micro or oven). Very good service and reception a mine of information. So easy to cater in the room with a large Spar (as in shop) within walking distance. We tended to have a bite out for lunch - typically a delicious soup or a leberkase roll with mustard - very Austrian.

Getting around the valley is a cinch. Essentially just one road and if you want you can bus it for 1 euro! Quiet at this time of year which is great - nicest village is Bad Hofgastein. You can also walk to the train station to make journeys further a field.

Things to do: we like moderate walks. Beware that when an Austrian says it's 20 minutes walk it usually means an hour! Still another excuse I guess for a cold beer or even a warm gluvine on route. Don't miss driving up or going by bus to Sport Gastein area at the top of the valley (20 mins) - few euros entry fee. Staggeringly beautiful, good easy walks or harder if you like to burn those calories. Lots of places 'Huttes' for eating typical alpine food mostly from the local farms. Austrians love 'Butter Milk' and down it like no tomorrow - my advice, have a small sip first, it may be an acquired taste! The ski lift from behind the station is okay with good views and a few marmots to amuse! If you are not going to walk down - bit expensive and even the walk is so,so. A far more attractive option is the lift to Fulseck from Dorf Gastein. At the top you can walk down to the most beautiful small lake - we had it to ourselves. On a nice day take a bite to eat and may be walk down to the middle lift station, (up was hard work!). For a short walk get a map from reception and walk the Kaiser-Will Promenade - 90 mins there and back with a super little restaurant en route serving good goulash and specialising in smoked trout. For a longer route instead of coming back walk down to Bad Hofgastein and take the bus back.

If you like local food try Gastaus Schmaranz near to Bad Hofgastein - a really great experience and by the way, almost everyone speaks some english to help with ordering. Hotel food is average although pretty good value especially if you have a large appetite. We asked in reception for recommendations but pretty much everything was delicious. I think Austrian has the cleanest WCs in the world!

All in all - a great holiday with loads to do, great food, comfortable accommodation and friendly staff. This is our second visit and we would come again.

Room Tip: Try for as high a room as possible looking over the town. No sun in the pm but can sun bathe by the...

“Breathtaking Scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2011

We flew to Salzburg Airport and then hired a car from the airport for the 1.5 hour drive to Bad Gastein. Fantastic roads, well signposted, although we had purchased a road map of Austria before leaving UK. The Mondi Bellevue is an aparthotel, so you stay on a self catering basis, although they did have a buffet restaurant open in the main hotel building where you could have breakfast and evening meals. We decided to self cater most of the time, although we did have a couple of evening buffet meals, which were fairly good value at 16 euros per person for three courses (basically you could eat as much as you wanted, except the dessert which was brought by a staff member). Because we were 'out of season', i.e. not there for the skiing, the hotels two other restaurants were closed until June. The hotel had a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and jacuzzi which we made regular use of. It also had a self-service laundry room with ironing board in one of the annex buildings. We were close to the railway station and took the opportunity of going to Salzburg by train for the day. What we really noticed in Austria as a general rule is everything is very clean. The hotel staff were very helpful and spoke in both German and English (and possibly other languages too). The hotel does have a 20-minute drop off parking area directly outside the hotel, but the main free car park is away from the hotel and quite a walk back, although you can cut through one of the other annex buildings connected to the main building by glass bridges. We were told that Bad Gastein is heaving in the ski season, but when we were there in May it was really like a ghost town, with only a few shops open. Even the Casino/Hotel was closed, so couldn't gamble an evening away there.

Thank you very much that you had been guest at MONDI-HOLIDAY HOTEL Bellevue and thank you that you have found time to write a review about your stay. Your opinion is very important so everybody can benfit from your experiences and impressions about our hotel.

Unfortunately your stay was in low season. Some of the hotels in Bad Gastein are not open all year long as we are. We are sorry to hear that you had the impression to stay in a "ghost city". At the end of May the cable cars open again for the summer season and also most of the other hotels reopen again. So it will get busy again in town with lots of interesting and attractive events.

Best wishes from Bad Gastein - your MONDI-HOLIDAY-Bellevue-Team!
