We decided to get away for one night and drove to Bad Gastein, Austria. After reading about the Miramonte in a magazine we booked and got a nice deal on the room, breakfast and dinner. Normally you don't expect much from the breakfast and dinner options but we were pleasantly surprised.
Firstly though the drive to the hotel is amazing. It's perched on the mountain high above the valley floor and looks like it should be in Casino Royale with a roof top sign, wooden decking and a very windy road down to the entrance. While it wasn't busy, check in was pleasant and the desk staff friendly and attentive. The room was great, we didn't have a great view but it was clean and had some nice touches plus the bathroom was huge and very clean.
We went to the bar that night and they have an extensive cocktail list although we'd like to have seen some signature cocktails rather than the typical drinks you can get at the apres ski disco but this is a minor thing. The service was pretty good and the drinks well made. The lounge area is super cool and if the weather had been better we'd have been able to enjoy our drinks outside on the sun lounger deck. The dining room is connected to the bar and we went next door to find a selection of main courses. The food was great and un-like most places was a good portion. The service was excellent. Same story with the breakfast, a buffet with a great selection of cereal, hot and cold options and pastries.
All in all, we had a great stay at the Miramonte. The only thing that was missing for us was a swimming pool but they do have a spa and sauna if that's your thing. Definitely visit if you're in the area.
4* would have been 5* if it had a swimming pool.

First of all, Bad Gastein is a very nice ski resort and town.
The hotel is not in the town centre and it is not possible to walk to the ski area but they offer a transfer at a few different hours in the morning and in the afternoon. They also will pick all ski material that you need from the store so we haven't miss having a car all that week.
The room was ok, good size but have a dated bathroom. The balcony views, spa facilities, terrace and bar/finning area are great so we spent most of our time in those areas.
After skiing they offer a lunch (after 2 pm) with soup, sandwiches and cakes (always different) which is amazing. We had our dinner included so we always had dinner at the hotel but it is worth! Food is very very good!
The staff was always very polite and helpful. If we come back to Bad Gastein we would stay at the same hotel.

It's a small hotel in Bad Gastein, with marvelous view and very good service. The cuisine was more than our expectations. Perfect combination of comfort, convenience and fine food.

We stayed for 4 nights and it is one of the best experiences we have ever had. Fantastic room, food and service. We will definatly come back
